March 9 – Rio Grande Valley Quilt Guild presents Judy Stewart, “Painting a Quilt.” Classes held at Renee’s Fiber Art Quilting School, 1612 N. Tower Road, Alamo. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. $45 for guild members.

March 9 – The TSC Arts Center, 90 Taylor Road, Brownsville, presents Soprano Catherine Compton and pianist Allan Armstrong in recital entitled “My People: Songs and Stories of American Lives,” at 7:30 p.m. For information call (956) 883-7025.

March 11 – Texas Independence Celebration at the San Benito Fair Grounds on FM 510 and Cesar Gonzalez Parkway from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Highlights include battle reenactments of the Battle of the Alamo and Battle of San Jacinto. Market Days and a cook-off are part of the celebration. Free admission. Parking $5.

March 11 – The 47th Annual Spring Pow Wow will be held at the Lark Community Center, 2601 Lark Avenue in McAllen. Doors open at 10 a.m. At 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. there will be grand entries of all Indians in costume and at 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. there will be gourd dances. Free admission and public is welcome.

March 11 – Downtown Harlingen Walking Tour, 9 a.m. leaves from J.B.’s Café, 204 Jackson Street.

March 17-19 – Camille Playhouse in Brownsville presents “9 to 5” the musical by Dolly Parton. Tickets are $20. Showtimes are at 8 p.m. on Fri. & Sat., and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. Order tickets online at www.camilleplayhouse.net. Call 956-542-8900 for more information.

March 22 – McAllen Town Band’s final concert of the season will be performed at Trinity Worship Center at 7:30 p.m.
