March 8: The Valley Symphony Orchestra presents “The Art of Harp Symphony Gala” from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the McAllen Convention Center Ballroom, 700 Convention Center Blvd. The cocktail attire fundraiser offers complimentary champagne and wine throughout the evening, dinner and award presentation. Guest harpist Iraida Poberezhnaya and her husband, pianist Ildar Khannanov, will perform. March 8: The Ballet Folklórico UTRGV presents the final performance of Alegría 2018 at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex on the Edinburg campus at 7:30 p.m. in the Brownsville TSC Arts Center. March 10: From 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., volunteers are needed at the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife to plant seedlings to create more thornscrub forest habitat. Bring work gloves, shovel, sturdy shoes/boots, water bottle, sunscreen and hat. Water refills and snacks will be provided. March 10: The City of San Benito will host their annual Texas Independence Celebration & BBQ Cook-off at the San Benito Stock Show Fairgrounds, 25699 Cesar Gonzalez Parkway. March 13: The Upper Valley Art League (UVAL) hosts the Rio Grande Valley Woodcarver member Brenda Lodermeier teaching pyrography (wood burning). All materials will be provided. The fee for each workshop is $25 per session for UVAL members and $35 for nonmembers. Payment is due at sign up. March 16-17: The Edinburg Arts Foundation presents the Fifth Annual Artrageious Art Show at the Edinburg Conference Center, 118 Paseo Del Prado. A special showing and reception will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person. Call Ramon Vela at 956-607-9048 for information. On Saturday, the show is free and open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

March 17: The next “Wine and Masterpiece” workshop, led by Joyce Capen, will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Upper Valley Art League annex. Cost is $20 for members and $25 for nonmembers. Class size is limited to 15. Art supplies will be furnished, but students should bring their own beverage and snack. Classes must be paid at the time of registration. March 17: Head to Quinta Mazatlan World Birding Center for the Monarch Festival to celebrate the annual arrival of Monarch butterflies with crafts, nature presentations, butterfly garden, information, music, art, food and more. March 20: The Upper Valley Art League hosts Fred and Elaine Stenman presenting workshops in “Introduction to Low Relief Carving” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each date.
