FromthepublisherAs I look forward to the patriotic Veterans Day events this weekend, I feel deep gratitude for the brave men and women who have served our country valiantly, defending freedom and liberty. This nation has refused to allow tyrannical despots to destroy the freedom of our people, or that of our friends and allies.

This weekend we not only honor those who served valiantly in past wars, but also our sons and daughters and grandchildren who have stepped forward to serve their country, to protect their families, friends and, yes, even millions of people they never met so they may enjoy the freedom to live happy lives, enjoying the blessings of this great nation.

Our warriors deserve the honor and respect of a grateful nation that could not preserve our beloved freedoms if it were not for their sacrifices. We are most grateful for those who gave their lives, and we share the sadness and loss with the families who lost their sons, daughters, husbands, wives or fathers and mothers in so great a cause.

While most of us have never experienced the terror of war first hand, it is important that we hear the stories of those who have to help us understand the cost, the price of freedom and liberty, and that we must never yield to any enemy – from without or within – who would take our freedoms away.

I extend a special salute to our Winter Texan defenders of freedom who have served our country.

In today’s edition of the Winter Texan Times we bring you the story of Dave Cole, a Vietnam veteran, who served in an era when our military was not respected or appreciated as they should have been. Yet, he served – and many, many others like him – risking his life for freedom, answering the call of his country in performing the duty he was asked to perform.

Thank you Dave Cole. Thank you to all our veterans. God bless you and God bless America!
