20171228 CasaDelValle BoxesGifts LANG 6022Because Norma Moe attended a prayer breakfast at Winter Ranch RV park in Alamo, just before Thanksgiving of 2013, dozens of families have benefited during the holidays from the annual Casa Del Valle food drive.

Following that 2013 prayer breakfast, Norma was handed an invitation to an Advent breakfast at a private home in Alamo. Norma and four of her friends attended, and when the breakfast was over they came out filled with excitement and the spirit of Christmas.

They didn't just keep that joy to themselves. Instead they wanted to share, and take action.

20171228 CasaDelValle LANG 7214Upon returning to Casa del Valle the five met with the activity director and then park manager Marie Howard. Thus, the Casa del Valle Ladies Christmas Brunch was born

The brunch is a time where many of the ladies can meet and socialize with each other. The brunch usually includes a program and the “Wright” game is played. But the brunch means so much more – it is also the kickoff for the Casa del Valle food drive, which has become an annual event since the birth of the brunch.

For two weeks, park residents donate money, time and food. This year on Saturday, Dec. 16, more than 1,500 pounds of food – yes, almost a ton – was delivered to the La Mesa Colonia church; toys were included.

20171228 CasaDelValle ColoiaChildren LANG 6067Twenty families were the recipients of the food, which consisted of non-perishable items, a bag of potatoes, carrots, apples, oranges and a ham. Casa del Valle Texas Grandmas made 20 quilts, one for each family, plus 20 bags used to carry the perishable food items.

Maude’s (Carol Agnew) toy drive provided toys for each of the children.

Hugs, thank yous, laughter and joy filled the day between the families, the children and those who delivered the good.

The Christmas spirit was felt by all, and it all started with one little prayer breakfast.
