20170208 GOLF PHOTOS TIERRA DEL SOL islandWalk into Tierra Del Sol just about any time of the day that it’s open and you’ll see some golfers – on the course, on the green, in the pro shop or chowing down on some of the best breakfast tacos in the Valley.

It just seems like everything continues to get better at the Pharr municipal course. Looking back a few years ago – when the course had incomplete cart paths, balding fairways and greens that wouldn’t hold the loftiest of shots – many wouldn’t believe it’s the same course. Now the cart paths are complete, there is grass pretty much from tee to green, there are no sudden ponds appearing due to poor drainage and golf balls will stay on the green with the correct approach. All this is because the city decided to invest in their course – close to a $1 million.

Golfers would normally have to start out on No. 1, which was notorious for letting great shots just roll off the back. Then as they moved on to No. 2, the temporary ponds from rainfall and/or poor irrigation, combined with the end of a cart path would make the start of the round as unmemorable as any round in the Valley. That, however, has all changed and word of mouth continues to bring golfers back who haven’t played the course in many years.

Winter Texan rounds are up due to those reasons – and more. The course has leagues and preferential tee times for Winter Texans and their new golf pro Mike Fernuik has plenty of experience in golf club management, previously working at Harlingen Country Club.

“Come back!” read one post on golflink.com related to the new Tierra Del Sol back in late 2015. “New greens keeper and it’s already starting to look better. Greens are good, with little break to the hole. The fairways are in good shape. The sand traps are also looking good.”

Located at 700 E. Hall Acres Road in Pharr, Tierra del Sol plays nearly 6,800 from the longest set of tees. It currently has openings for its Winter Texan Leagues.

Tierra Del Sol is a pubic, 18-hole golf course, par-72 and measures 6,767 yards. For information about Tierra Del Sol Golf Course, call 956-402-4545.
