The deadline is fast approaching for a chance to win a Kindle Fire and $150 cash. Here is how to enter. Complete this year’s Winter Texan Survey before the Feb. 26 deadline and send it in.

The bi-annual Winter Texan Survey, conducted by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), studies the economic impact of Winter Texans in the Rio Grande Valley.

The easiest way to complete the survey is online at and there is a link to the survey on the home page of our website at

It only takes a couple of minutes to complete the survey, and you could be one of the winners of our drawing – just for participating in the anonymous survey. Prizes this year include a Kindle Fire and a $150 cash prize. The Winter Texan Times helps sponsor the survey because we know how important Winter Texans are to local businesses and the RGV economy, spending $760 million each year, according to the last survey.

If you prefer filling out a paper copy of the survey form, copies are available at the Winter Texan Times office as well as at chamber of commerce offices in Mission, McAllen, Edinburg, Alamo, Pharr (EDC office), Weslaco, Mercedes, Harlingen, San Benito, Brownsville, Port Isabel and South Padre Island. Copies are also available at the Texas Travel Information Center in Harlingen and at the restaurant at Don-Wes Flea Market.

This survey of Winter Texans is conducted every two years by Dr. Penny Simpson with the UTRGV Tourism Research Center, with assistance from the Winter Texan Times in distributing the survey.

"All information provided will be kept confidential. The data will be tabulated and only statistical information will be made public," said Dr. Penny Simpson, associate dean of the College of Business Administration at UTRGV.

To enter the prize drawing, fill out the survey form completely and mail it to the Tourism Research Center at the address printed on the form no later than Feb. 26. Survey forms may also be dropped off at the Winter Texan Times office, located at 1217 N. Conway, Mission. All survey forms received by Feb. 26 will be entered in the drawing, including those completed online. Online submissions are preferred. Only one survey per household will be permitted.
