Vance Greek to host Valentine’s Day Concert

20120209_Joshua-Experience_FEATVance Greek, known as the “Golden Voice of Branson,” will be performing a Valentine’s Concert on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Harlingen Municipal Auditorium. This year’s show will feature Larry Randall and his 30-piece Big Band Joshua Experience.

The Deep Rivers Boys, Greek’s popular quartet, will also perform several songs. The group consists of Rolando Reyes, lead singer; Frontis Newell, tenor; Vance Greek, baritone; and Jerry Hartzog, bass.

Vickie Russell, Greek’s sister, and Rolando Reyes, will also perform for the show.

The shows begin at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. with a 30-minute pre-show featuring some of Vance’s friends. Those who attend are encouraged to take a can of food to be donated to Loaves and Fishes, a homeless shelter and food pantry in Harlingen.

Restless talent may be the best way to describe Larry Randall’s success in the numerous facets of his life. He has become internationally known as “the Saxman,” but this is a deceptive description of this multi-talented entertainer. His ease of style and unique vocal presentations, combine with his joy in his work to create an atmosphere that few can resist, making him one of the most sought-after entertainers.

By the age of eight, when he began his formal music education with classical training studying piano at the Conservatory of Music in Kansas City, Missouri, he knew music was to be his life’s work.

In high school he began playing the saxophone and clarinet and formed his own eighteen-piece orchestra. Larry’s big band sound was so successful the band got to do a weekly television show. The leaders of Big Bands, like Count Basie, would come to be interviewed and Larry would provide the music for the show.

During his career, Larry has delighted audiences all over the world, performing in many premier establishments. He has appeared with such all time greats as Judy Garland, Tony Bennett, Pete Fountain and Bobby Darrin, to name a few.

He worked with Burt Bacharach recording the soundtrack, “Love Hurts.” Columbia and Liberty Records signed Larry to produce and record for their labels. He now records and produces under his own label.

On Jan. 14, 2001, Larry played his sax at Northgate Church for the first time. It was at that time the Lord started telling Larry it was time to come home. In June 2002, Larry put an 18-piece Big Band in the Northgate Baptist Church and on June 9, 2002 Joshua Experience had its first performance wearing tuxedos. In July 2002, a Dallas television station did a film feature on the group and the Dallas Morning News ran a story in the paper. The rest is history so to speak because Joshua Experience has grown in popularity since that time.

Tickets for the Valentine Concert cost $12, $15 and $20. All seating is reserved. Tickets can be purchased online at www.harlingenarts.com or by calling 956-216-5990. A small service fee will be charged by the auditorium. Doors open at 2 p.m. for the 3 p.m. show and at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. show.
