The event will be held New Year’s Day, January 1, with registration opening at 10 a.m. The event is open to the public. The dip will take place at noon. Afterward, you can warm yourselves up with a hot meal from Clayton’s and drinks to celebrate the first event of 2022. Even with the temperature being in the mid 70’s, reaching 80 as a high, the water will still provide a chilly experience for most. Water temperatures during this time of year average between 60 and 70 degrees. During the event, Friends of Animal Rescue will be selling polar bear t-shirts. All profits will benefit their shelter. Friends of Animal Rescue is a nonprofit, no-kill shelter that focuses its efforts on the animals of South Padre Island. They believe in finding a home for every homeless animal and ensuring the animals are healthy and safe. For this event and more on South Padre Island, visit sopadre.com/ event-calendar.
