Glenn Simpson will talk about the importance of bees, and Johnathan Wood will once again share his highly acclaimed raptor project. This features live hawks, owls and eagles which have been rescued but cannot return to the wild. The tour scheduled for the day will be bay boat riding tour #2 starting at 8 a.m. Shane Wilson will offer surf fishing techniques on Friday, February 11. Mark Machado will talk about fly fishing. Johnathan Wood will continue with the raptor project by telling of his adventures as a falconer and how he got into wild bird rehabilitation. A possible tour, depending on weather, will be coastal birding trip #2, starting at 7:30 a.m. On Saturday, February 12, the final day is all about birding in the Valley. Mark Conway will tell of his experiences in bird banding. Marilyn Lorenz will show attendees the birds of the Rio Grande Valley, followed by a guided walk on the Nature Center’s boardwalk. Johnathan Wood continues telling of his raptor project with a display of the birds throughout the day. If you ever wanted a closer look at a wild hawk, owl, or eagle, this is your chance. The tour will be Cactus Creek Ranch and Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge, starting at 7:30 a.m. The Birding Center will open at 8 a.m. Daily guided walks on the boardwalk will be at 8:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m., registration is required. Gator talks will be at various times daily. The event takes place from February 8-12 at the Center, 6801 Padre Blvd. All field trips are of limited attendance; it is a first come, first served.
