Casa Del Sol RV and Mobile Home Park’s recreation hall, in Donna, sits large within its park – really large. It’s a looming presence that says, “Look at me.” You’ll be happy you did. The massive building is only referred to as the rec hall, but make no mistake, it’s a Great Rec Hall. It’s presence on the outside is impressive. It’s value on the inside is even greater and it’s the lifeblood for just about everything for park residents. On this day it’s decorated for a (Wednesday) luau. “This is where everything happens, from business to entertainment, from playing cards to billiards to using the hot tub or entering the pool,” said Joe Compton who, along with his wife Kathy, have been the park managers for the past five years. “People will come and watch sports games on the big screen TV, share meals, have church and relax or play here.” Joe even streams his high school football team from back in Missouri on Friday nights. It’s been growing in popularity too. The first thing that catches a walk-in’s attention is the decorations, on this day Hawaii-themed all throughout the great hall. The park is having a luau today (Feb. 23), so the theme is set. Bright colors, a variety of leis, figures, Tiki masks and all things Hawaiian were arranged throughout the hall, extending to its other rooms as well. “Deb Burkett is our park director of design, and she comes up and shops for all of this,” K a t h y said. “Deb is the m a s t e r - mind, but with lots of help. Deb and Dan (her husband) have really done a big job on b e a u t i f i - cation here and we’re also working on a memorial garden where rose bushes and trees have been bought.” The worker bees at Casa Del Sol keep up with the decorations, changing them regularly and not missing a beat when holidays of significance approach throughout the year. It continually gives the hall a relevant appeal, and probably strikes up some curiosity at times also. “This is the epicenter of Casa del Sol, grand central if you will for amusement and socialization,” Joe said. “All our business is conducted here and the activity directors work here. It’s really a fun place.” It’s more like a mini amusement park for residents. One step into the building and it’s, “OK, what do we want to do first.” The different “stations” around the building include a coffee circle with a television, the hot tub, the inside entrance to the pool, a gym, the Casa Del Sol’s Rec Hall is full of life
