This annual tradition has been a favorite, long-standing exhibit that brings the community together and the IMAS to life during the holiday season. Each tree follows an overarching theme and interprets that theme in its own creative and original way. The tradition of the Christmas Tree Forest brings to life the spirit of art, creation, and handmade ornaments and inspires creativity among our youngest visitors through adult organizations and groups. The Annual Christmas Tree Forest will be on display at the IMAS starting December 3 through December 31. Programs at IMAS this December include Operation Imagination Winter Camp and an Adult Folk Art Workshop in Basketry. Operation Imagination Winter Camp is a threeday camp, December 28 through December 30, that will focus on the Smithsonian exhibition “Life in One Cubic Foot,” as campers become investigators through outdoor surveys and activities about nature. Online registration for the Winter Camp is now open. The Folk Art Workshop in December will explore the beautiful art of Mexican basketry and its roots in indigenous practices. Participants (ages 18+) will get a closer look at Mexican basketry in the IMAS permanent collection and then create their own functional bowl from reeds. This workshop will be held December 10, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the IMAS. This class will be taught by IMAS Educator Selena Garza and the cost is $15 per participant ($10 for IMAS Members). Visitors are also invited to take on the Gingerbread House Workshop building challenge on December 9, 10, 11, and 17. This workshop is $10 ($5 for IMAS Members). Thanksgiving and Christmas are time for sharing, not just with family and loved ones but even with those we may never know. The teachers of a study group in Harlingen give homework assignments to members of their class. Homework? What kind of homework is suitable for both young and old? Last week, the homework was “Do at least one good deed”. This week, the challenge was to “Be generous”. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well - try it! What you do ordinarily doesn’t count. Go above and beyond what you generally do. Above all else - enjoy your Thanksgiving. Be thankful and be generous. THANKFUL From pg. 15
