REMOTE (956)566-1157 International Food Festival event to be held The International Food Festival hosted by St. George Orthodox Church will be held on Saturday, December 10th at 704W. SamHouston, in Pharr. The event features the sale of a variety of homestyle foods and beverages from many parts of the world, including Greece, Lebanon, Mexico, Russia, and Eastern Europe. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival, held on the second Saturday of December each year, is a much-anticipated event for the local community, families, and Winter Texans alike. The festival is a fun and educational event for all attendees. With free entry, parking, activities, and a wide variety of entertainment, there’s always something for everyone to see and do. The fundraising event features the sale of international foods, soups, and ethnic baked goods, including the church’s homemade baklava, baked goods, spanakopita, stuffed grape leaves, and much more. Some of the other foods available are Romanian sausage, vegan pierogi, zuppa Toscana, lentil soup, borscht, and cabbage rolls. There will be readyto-eat refrigerated items, and frozen take-home foods from around the world. The festival is a great place for holiday season shopping with unique items created by local artisans, handicrafts, and farmers market vendors. There will also be handmade St. George soaps, toiletries, Monastery made beeswax candles, and gourmet St. George magnificent mustards, homestyle preserves, and more. Free church tours, icon art and theology tours, and talks will be held throughout the day. Free entertainment includes live music, Eastern European Christmas Carols, and dancing scheduled throughout the day. Free activities and information booths will be provided by community organizations including Museum of South Texas history, International Museum of Arts and Sciences, Food Bank of RGV Community Gardens and Pharmers Market, Texas Master Naturalists and more. The festival is also the annual “Give a Can; Get a Cookie” food drive for St. George Food Pantry. The food pantry has served over 95,000 hungry people since it began in 2004.
