7 WINTER TEXAN TIMES www.wintertexantimes.com DECEMBER 7, 2022 Upper Valley Art League holds Christmas Market The Upper Valley Art League (UVAL) is excited to announce the opening of their 2022 Christmas Market. The market features original art for sale, created by local artists offering a great variety of unique gifts for the holiday season. The Christmas theme will showcase paintings, sculptures, ceramics, fiber art, jewelry, Christmas ornaments and more. The Market had an opening reception on December 3 and will remain open until December 17. The Christmas Market will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. UVAL is a nonprofit organization of artist volunteers. The Mission venue provides studios where artists meet socially, sharing ideas, learning, and creating art, as well as a gallery where artists display and sell their artwork. Exhibits are changed every month to provide artists with opportunities to showcase individual talents and mediums. Exhibits are always free and open to the public. UVAL is located at 921 East 12th Street, Mission, next to Speer Memorial Library. December 10 – The South Texas Ecotourism Center (STEC) Laguna Vista speaker series will feature Texas Master Naturalist and SPI Birding Center Educator Javier Gonzalez presenting Christmas Bird Count. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments are free. STEC is located at 501 W. State Hwy. 100 in Laguna Vista. Speaker series is held every first and third Wednesday. December 10 – Weslaco will host their lighted Christmas Parade at 5 p.m. downtown on Texas Blvd. from Pike St. to 6th St. A Santa Dash will be held just before the parade at 4 p.m. Parking spaces are available along the parade route. December 10 – Keep McAllen Beautiful will host a Christmas Posada at Archer Park, 101 N. Main St., starting at 7 p.m. The free event will feature the traditional posada procession that reenacts Mary and Jospeh’s search for lodging. December 11 – The Cameron County Amphitheater and Isla Blanca Park will host a Holiday Paw Parade. Bring your pets and holiday costumes to join the fun for the first Annual Holiday Paw Parade on South Padre Island. Prizes and photos will be provided. The amphitheater is located at 53550 Dolphin Cove. December 12 – Broadway McAllen presents On Your Feet at the McAllen Performing Arts Center. December 13 – The Brownsville Society for the Performing arts presents Messiah and More Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. at the TSC Performing Arts Center, 90 Taylor Ave. in Brownsville. The event features Alium Spiritum along with Diane Walters, Lara Alami, Ricardo Diaz-Garcia, Sean Taylor conducting, UTRGV Master Chorale, Brownsville Festival Chorus and Orchestra, area high schools, and the Chorus of the Rio Grande Valley.
