Masonic reunion being held As we reflect upon this past year, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the support you have offered Palm Valley Animal Society in 2022. Only with the continued advocacy from our local and national community can we continue saving lives at the capacity that we do, and we are grateful for each helping hand that has impacted our lifesaving efforts. We pleaded for help during many unanticipated crises, from black mold to a dog food shortage, and each time, you offered your assistance. Your generosity has saved thousands of lives this year, including the life of sweet Leia. Leia, formerly known as Coco, never imagined that she would return to an animal shelter after her adoption day in 2020 as a young puppy. However, after spending two years together, her family made the difficult decision to return Leia to PVAS due to no fault of her own. Upon surrender, her previous owners informed staff that Leia had a large wound on one of her limbs that refused to heal. Unfortunately, her adjustment back to shelter life was not easy, and healing from this injury was just one of many hardships Leia would have to endure while back at PVAS. She went days without eating, and our team soon learned that Leia had an ear infection and Heartworm disease that also needed treatment in addition to her wound. Leia would require a longer recovery than initially anticipated. Then, a relief veterinarian informed staff that the wound was actually a large mass or tumor that needed to be surgically removed as soon as possible. Without surgery, she could lose her leg. Thanks to your support, Leia received the lifesaving care she needed. Her tumor was successfully removed at our clinic, and shortly after, Leia got a second chance to live the life she deserved. She was adopted into a loving home that absolutely adores their new family member. Now, Leia spends her days spoiled with toys and treats. Because of the surgery that saved her leg, she also enjoys her time running around with her new fur-sibling, Luke! And it wouldn’t have been possible without you. Your support changed Leia’s life and can change the lives of so many others. For all the pets like Leia, we need your continued support. Give today and be the change for pets in the Rio Grande Valley. PVAS is located at 2501 W. Trenton Rd. in Edinburg. For more information, call (956) 686-1141.
