GRIFFIN PKWY MISSION, TX (956) 766-7133 101 BUENA VISTA STREET PENITAS, TX e y w n o e r . 6 ) t Today, Texas General Land Office (GLO) Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. reminds all interested volunteers to sign up for the 2023 Texas Adopt-ABeach (AAB) Winter Cleanups on Friday, February 3rd at South Padre Island and Saturday, February 4th at five locations across the Coastal Bend Area. “The responsible stewardship of Texas’ land is one of GLO’s top priorities, and the Adopt-A-Beach Winter Cleanups provide us with an excellent opportunity to care for our coastline,” said Commissioner Buckingham. “Through these cleanups, Texans and volunteers from across the nation are able to give back to our coastal communities, and I look forward to helping support Adopt-A-Beach events in the future.” Volunteers interested in participating can find information about registration and cleanup locations at the AAB website or show up on-site the day of to enjoy a morning filled with fun and service to the Texas coast. Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed-toe shoes and to bring sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of drinking water. Volunteers may also want to download the Clean Swell app to track their efforts. Data submitted to the app is instantly uploaded to the Ocean Conservancy’s global ocean trash database. There will be two clean up sites on South Padre Island. Clean up site one will be at Edwin KingAtwood County Park. Clean up site two will be at City Beach Access #11. Check in for both sites will be at 27159 State Park Road 100. Check-in opens at 8:30 a.m. with clean up time to be done from 9 a.m. to noon. The Adopt-A-Beach program began in the fall of 1986, when 2,800 volunteers picked up 124 tons of trash. Since then, more than 562,000 Texas Adopt-A-Beach volunteers have picked up nearly 10,000 tons of trash from Texas beaches. Texans who are not able to attend the cleanup can help keep our beaches clean by making a tax-deductible donation online at Adopt-A-Beach website. There are also several AdoptA-Beach sponsorship levels ranging from $30 to $25,000, allowing both individuals and corporations to contribute to this major cleanup effort. On April 21, Asiya Korepanova returns to the VSO for Grieg’s masterful Piano Concerto, along with the American masterpiece West Side Story. Music selections are Grieg – Piano Concerto featuring Asiya Korepanova on piano and Bernstein – Symphonic Dances from West Side Story. Tickets start at just $25 and you can purchase the three-concert series by calling the VSO office Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The VSO also will host the annual Bravo!
