This place offers chips as soon as you sit down with 3 dip options. Besides your regular red salsa, they offer a green sauce with jalapenos with mild heat, and a garlic sauce with a bit more heat, if not slower. All three of them were good and provided something to fit different palates. We thought about ordering a botana like suggested, but decided we needed to try some different dishes so we could have a better taste at the offerings. My husband ordered a medium Shrimp Cocktail. The shrimp cocktail was served in a cocktail glass with cilantro, onion, avocado, cocktail sauce, and shrimp. It was nearly gone before our entrees arrived. Before our entrees we were pleasantly surprised with a vegetable soup. The soup was full of flavor with large pieces of carrots, celery, onion, and zucchini. I ordered the Tacos de Bistek with a side of guacamole. The meal was served with rice and beans, a little bit of lettuce, French fries, and three overloaded corn tacos. Each taco had enough chopped bistek pieces for at least two tacos. The meat was soft, tender and full of flavor. The tortillas were not your usual run of the mill tortillas either – these are freshly made. The guacamole was just creamy enough with some good chunks of avocado. My husband chose the Fajita Tampiquena. Also served with rice and beans, it included fajita with sauteed peppers and onions, two enchiladas, and guacamole. He had flour tortillas that were nice and fluffy. His meat was also flavorful, soft, and didn’t need the knife that was provided. The portions are generous, and we both had enough to keep our son happy as he enjoyed our take-out boxes for dinner and lunch the next day. We just might have to take a few more trips before we can pick a favorite. Costa Messa has two locations at 5246 N 10th Street and at 4013 W Expressway 83 in McAllen, and are open every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Costa Messa: Full of flavor and spice
