Thomas Butler is a retired science educator with experience ranging from kindergarten through university. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Missouri, he served two years in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps, including a year in Vietnam. He then received a master’s degree from Webster University. He certified as a Texas Master Naturalist in 2012 and resides in the Edinburg area. Bill Rich is a retired logistics and distribution manager. He earned a degree in Agricultural Economics from Louisiana State University after serving three years in the Amazon as a Peace Corps volunteer. He is a Texas Master Naturalist. Anita Westervelt is a retired U.S. Navy Chief Journalist and former federal external affairs officer with degrees in communication and fine art. She is a photojournalist and writes a nature column for the McAllen Monitor twice a month and authors Anita’s Blog on the South Texas Border Chapter website. She certified as a Texas Master Naturalist in 2013. The South Texas Border Chapter Texas Master Naturalist members will have an outreach booth and native plant sale with plants propagated by chapter members and a local native plant nursery. Chapter members will talk with visitors about the benefits of native plants and make recommendations on which species work best in pollinator and nectar gardens. There is no admission fee to enter the home and garden show. The center is at 700 Convention Center Boulevard in McAllen. Show hours are Friday, 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. A schedule of speakers will be available at the STBCTMN outreach booth. Look for the green shirts.
