Taylor-Uchoa, UTRGV The UTRGV Ballet Folklorico is inviting the community to Alegría 2024 with shows starting in early February. Led by Miguel Angel Peña Caballero, director of the UTRGV Ballet Folklórico, Alegría is an annual folklórico performance that brings life to Mexico’s art of folk dance. The fast-paced show has a cast of 40 dancers and 15 musicians dressed in colorful costumes, performing lively choreographies supported by theatrical lighting and music. A history of Mexico’s folk dance is unveiled through the original works and choreographies of invited guest artists from a variety of Mexican states and regions. “Alegría is a spectacular folklorico dance show in its 54th anniversary,” Peña said. “This dance production is composed of 40 talented dancers, accompanied by a dynamic ensemble of 25 musicians. Alegria shows the audience the essence of Mexico coming to life on stage.” Alegría 2024’s public performances are on the following dates: UTRGV Performing Arts Complex, Edinburg February 2 at 7:30 p.m.; February 3 at 7:30 p.m.; February 4 at 2 p.m.; February 9 at 7:30 p.m.; February 10 at 7:30 p.m.; and February 11 at 2 p.m. TSC Performing Arts Center, Brownsville March 9 at 7:30 p.m. Concert tickets for the public are $15 for adults, $10 for senior citizens and UTRGV students, and $5 for children.
