Winter Texan Times

MARCH 27, 2024 www.wintertexantimes.com 18 WINTER TEXAN TIMES We have been so blessed by sharing time with you at events and just talking to you. We feel we are in the right place and have been blessed by your words, your encouragement, and your actions. We also feel blessed to have great entertainment that visits the Valley each year to provide outstanding shows and music to the parks and other events. These Wintertainers™ make each season a fun one as does the activity directors and park management. Without them, we would be sittin’ twiddling our thumbs with nothing much to do. So, a huge shout out to the activity directors, park managers, entertainment committees, and other heads that get together and plan activities at the parks. Without all of them, you wouldn’t have much to do, and we wouldn’t have much to talk about. We wish to extend a special thank you to all the Winter Texans that perform community service while you are here in the Valley. Your generosity and caring spirit are greatly appreciated. I know they are always happy to see you return – as we are too. Your dedication, your caring hearts, and your love for others is truly overwhelming and a great thing to see. We have been blessed to be able to attend some of these events and that you share these events with us as well. It is uplifting to see your zest for life and all the fun times we have had together this year. We have been able to attend dances, performances, and other events where we have enjoyed meeting you. We are truly thankful for all that you do and bring to the Valley. You folks are good people. You bring such good things to the Valley, and we would not be the same without you. We hope you will share the message on what a gem the Valley is with others back home. Tell them what a great time you have had here this season, how wonderful the warm weather is and how affordable it is to stay in the Rio Grande Valley. After all, Pharr, Mission, Harlingen, and Brownsville were in the top ten THANK YOU From pg. 1 The king and queen, along with Mr. Tourist for 2024, singer Bobby Pulido, began the day with breakfast in the Bridge Authority Building, where private bridge co-owner Sameul Robert Sparks Jr. noted all the U.S. dignitaries in the room and how this Tourist Day is “truly an international event.” “This is a great party and a good way to say goodbye to our visitors,” he added. Sparks said he was very honored to have a lot of friends join them today, which led to the next event with he and his wife, Judy, being joined by the king and queen, Mr. Tourist, and Progreso city officials from the U.S. side to lead the American delegation on a stroll to the center of the bridge. There they met a Mexican delegation of Rio Bravo city officials, Nuevo Progreso officials and administrators, along with a mariachi band in a show of neighborly friendship. After greetings and some gifts, the two delegations headed to the stage on Main Street in Progreso, where Queen Marlynda was crowned by Rio Bravo personnel and presented with a sash and bouquet of flowers. King Jerry was given a large sombrero for a crown and a large sash. The queen, who originally came from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and husband Jerry, spend the summers at their lake place in Minnesota.
