Brett Marshall, Justin Terry and Mountain Highway will be the main entertainment for the event. It will also feature Fun N Sun Trio, RGV Men’s Gospel Choir, Faithful Singers, and a preshow by the Fun N Sun Ukelele Band. Fun N Sun has been holding GospelFest since 2006. The entertainers, as they do every year, volunteer their time and talent to participate in the event. They entertain singing gospel favorites and sharing messages of hope, testimony, and love. Although the concert is free, donations are requested to support local missions. Each year the park chooses one or two organizations to donate whatever is raised at the event. This year, they have chosen the San Benito Food Pantry, In His Steps Ministry of San Benito First United Methodist Church, and Loaves and Fishes. In previous years, they raised over $4,000 to donate to their chosen organizations. The In His Steps Ministry is designed to assist in providing new shoes for needy school-aged children of the San Benito area. This includes all of San Benito CISD, the local head start centers, and the newer charter schools. Many children aren’t going or do not participate fully in school simply because they don’t have shoes to wear. Often, if they do, the shoes are very worn and barely hanging together. In His Steps provides school counselors, nurses and coordinators, with a resource to address this situation. Local community groups like Fun N Sun, as well as the church congregation, contribute throughout the year to fund this program. If you would like to know more about the In His Steps programs or to donate, contact (945) 320-4934. The San Benito Food Pantry is a regular organization that Fun N Sun supports. The San Benito Food Pantry is a charity organization which has been in service for over 36 years, providing food for under income residents of San Benito. Serving 450 families each week or 5,700 people a month keeps more than twenty volunteers busy helping to operate the pantry on a weekly basis. The pantry spends more than $1,000 weekly buying food to help feed the hungry and those in need. If you would like to donate to the San Benito Food Pantry, you can call Forest Walker at (956) 572-0003. Loaves and Fishes is an organization that offers several services to the community for families in need. It is a full-service shelter. The goal is to provide those in need with an individual experience of human dignity. They take care of the basics first and through their partnerships with other organizations they help ensure that other needs are made available. Besides hot meals, Loaves and Fishes might also provide shortterm assistance for rent or utilities, basic health and wellness education and services, GED preparation, computer classes, job assistance, temporary residence for homeless individuals and more. They have offices in Harlingen and Raymondville. To learn more about Loaves and Fishes, and where you might be able to help, visit their website at lfrgv.org. Justin Terry. Courtesy photo

It was so special that 39 Kansans joined the group for their first time. Yay!! This year’s event took place at Peter Piper Pizza in Weslaco. We heard many positive comments about this venue: its central location within The Valley; each person’s cost was much less than the last few years (based on your individual order); and the amount of time available for getting to know your Kansas neighbor. Jan Bergman, chair of the event, and Larry Schmitt, communications, facilitated the day’s events. The organizers also thank the volunteers that facilitated registration and distributing the door prizes. Jan works hard throughout the year to accumulate the door prizes. We are also thankful to some of the attendees that brought a door prize to share. Plans for the 2026 Celebration are in process. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 27, 2026. If Larry has your contact information, that is great. If not, please email your information to Larrys13@icloud.com. Pictured are Martha and Larry Schmitt, Jan Bergman and Rusty Rierson. Check out the happy crowd. The event was full of gospel music, some comedy, and most of all worship and testimonies. The event was free, but they also took donations for local charities. 5 WINTER TEXAN TIMES www.wintertexantimes.com FEBRUARY 5, 2025 VSA brings readers favorite to their stage The Valley Star Awards will be bringing a reader favorite to the stage this year – Steven May and the Southern Knights. They have been honored, and they say humbled, to have been nominated and voted, “Country Band of The Year” by readers for the Valley Star Awards in 2022, 2023, and 2024. They are honored again to have been nominated and are excited that Steven has also been nominated for Male Vocalist. Steven May and the Southern Knights are a south Texas band playing a variety of country, rock and oldies. They play a variety of music that will have you up on your feet dancing and asking for more. They play everything from two stepping tunes to shuffles, waltz’s, line dances, polkas, rock-n-roll and good old belly rubbing favorites. There’s something for everyone at one of their performances. You will hear songs that send you running for the dance floor, have you tapping with the beat, dancing in your chair, singing along, and even songs that will make you want to just sit back and enjoy the music and Steven’s velvety voice. Steven May is the founder, lead singer and lead guitarist of the band and is a full-time entertainer. He was born and raised in Texas, where he grew up on a farm and continues to farm the land his great grandparents did along with singing and playing music. Over the years he has opened for big name acts, played and recorded in Nashville, and even played for a former First Lady. He will be the first to tell you, nothing compares with entertaining Winter Texans in the valley and the bonus of the lifelong friendships he has been blessed with, all while doing what he loves. He is proud to share the stage and play music with the best musicians the Valley has to offer. Leon Mann on bass/vocals and Tony Rodriguez on drums/vocals. Leon and Tony are both full-time musicians and are the backbone of Southern Knights. Leon and Tony were both born and raised in Texas and enjoy calling the Valley home. All these talented guys have been playing for years and together they have more than 100 years of combined musical experience. You will never leave a show disappointed. Follow Steven May, and Steven May and the Southern Knights, on Facebook to make sure you don’t miss any of their shows this season and beyond. Steven May and the Southern Knights. Courtesy photo

The group, who have been doing shows and special sockhop parties at the parks this year, are thrilled to be a part of this year’s show. The Warman Trio is a 1950s family band and show comprised of a father and two daughters that add their flair to the rock n’ roll and country hits from the 1950s and 60s. The father, Rick, leads the band on the electric guitar and vocals. While the eldest daughter, Presley Jewell, slaps and dances with her doghouse bass (Rosie) and manages the group. And last, but certainly not least, is the youngest, Jessica, the heartbeat of the band bringing incredible energy to the stand-up drum kit. Rick leads the family and has been in every type of band there is from 90s to country grass, to oldies rock, to 30+ years as a worship leader. He also has performed all around the world from Siberia, St. Petersburg, and Moscow, Russia, to Amsterdam, to the good ole USA from CA to TX to TN. In 2016, Rick started teaching his daughters music in church, Presley the electric bass guitar and Jessica the cajon box drum/percussion. As they say, the rest is history. Since then, they have, as Presley says, followed where the Lord has led them as doors keep opening for them along their path of playing music for others. Commonly known for their rockabilly style antics and high-energy show, the Warman Trio has been performing professionally since 2018, based out of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, Tennessee. They perform from the east coast, to Nashville, to Michigan’s UP, to the tip of southern Texas. Their most notable performances have been opening for the 15time Grammy-Award Winner Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder at the Mills Auditorium; Grand Ole Opry Stars Mark Wills and Suzy Boggus, the Heartbreakers (Heart Tribute), and Pandoras Box (Aerosmith Tribute). They perform at city-wide events in Gatlinburg, Greenville, Cleveland and Athens; theme parks like Dollywood, Ober Mountain, and Anakeesta; corporate events like Fortune 5,000, Nashville Scene’s “Best of Nashville” Party; car shows; resorts; venues such as Pine Theatre, LeConte Convention Center, Harlingen Convention Center, and more; Hard Rock Casino; restaurants like Hard Rock Café, Ole Smoky Moonshine, Margaritaville, Pucketts, etc.; Festivals like Dr. Pepper Fest, MooFest, CowPea Fests, RampTramp, etc.; the Sevier County Fair; chamber of commerce events, weddings, private events and so much more. You can learn more about them on Facebook and their website www.thewarmantrio.com. You can see this great group and more at the Valley Star Awards next week. The Warman Trio. Courtesy photo
