MHM holds Día de los Muertos Festival Join the Mission Historical Museum (MHM) on Saturday, October 29th, from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. as they celebrate their annual Día de los Muertos Festival. This year’s Day of the Dead festival will consist of various attractions. Enjoy what locals have to offer as artisan and food vendors take over the street selling artisan crafts and traditional Hispanic meals and desserts. Entertainment featuring local and international talent will bring the festival to life. Featured attractions include an exhibition in the annex building including a community altar exhibit, and their first ever 500m callejoneada (a walking serenade) celebrating life and death. The MHM is a non-profit organization that aims to not only preserve local history but to celebrate the local culture as well. Every year, the museum hosts folklife festivals that indulge in local traditions including the Día de los Muertos Festival (Day of the Dead Festival). MHM collects, preserves, exhibits, and promotes the history and cultural heritage of Mission and its surrounding communities. MHC present speakers for lecture series McAllen Heritage Center is excited to share their next museum event. On Saturday, November 5th, the center will be hosting the editor and two authors of ‘Living Beyond Borders, Growing up Mexican.’ The event is part of their lecture series. There will be reading selections by editor Margarita Longoria, and authors Sylvia Sanchez Garza and Dr. Trinidad Gonzalez. About the Book In this mixed-media collection of short stories, personal essays, poetry, and comics, this celebrated group of authors share the borders they crossed, the struggles they have pushed through, and the two cultures they continue to navigate as Mexican Americans. Living Beyond Borders is at once an eye-opening, heart-wrenching, and hopeful love letter from the Mexican American community to today’s young readers. The event will be held at 2 p.m. on November 5th. Refreshments will follow until 4 p.m. and books will be available for purchase. The center is located at 301 S.
