The folklore vested around this holiday continues to enrich our community,” said McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos. “This is the fourth year we display an Ofrenda in the Airport lobby for the community and travelers visiting our city.” Día de Muertos is an opportunity to remember and celebrate the lives of departed loved ones. Like most celebrations, this exhibit’s opening was filled with traditional music and performances. The temporary Ofrenda exhibit takes inspiration from traditional elements including water, wind, earth, and fire; all believed to remember, and honor loved ones. MFE´s Ofrenda aims to capture and represent the uniqueness of McAllen´s cultural blend. “This Ofrenda display will give the public a glimpse of what they can experience in Mexico around this time of the year and also celebrates the culture we have fostered in the city,” said McAllen City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E. McAllen International Airport invites the community to visit the exhibit anytime through Monday, November 7 in the airport lobby. The airport is located at 2500 S. Bicentennial Blvd. Upper Valley residents set to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s On Saturday, November 12, upper valley residents will join the fight to end Alzheimer’s disease at the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End A l z h e ime r ’s® — the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Registration for the event can be done online, and is also conducted the morning of the event at 8 a.m. By registering ahead of time, participants can make teams and raise funds to support the cause. Teams and participants can be found online where you can donate to or share your link with friends and family. The event will be held with an opening ceremony at 9 a.m. The walk begins at 9:30 a.m. It will take place at Tres Lagos, 4350 Tres Lagos Blvd., in McAllen. On walk day, participants honor those affected by Alzheimer’s with the poignant Promise Garden ceremony — a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden flowers represent people’s connection to Alzheimer’s — their personal reasons to end the disease. For more information and to register, visit alz.org/walk.
