Originally called the 1015 onion, the name came from the suggested planting date, October 15th. Texas Onion Fest is sure to provide a fun filled day of live music, dancing horses, kiddie rides, onion eating contests, pet costume contests, the Knapp Family Health fair, Vantage Bank Car Show, US Army Rio Grande Recruiting 1015 market and so much more. The festival is just one of many attractions Weslaco has to offer, and an opportunity to celebrate this agricultural achievement in Weslaco. Be sure to keep an eye out for 1015 Golden Wrapped Onions throughout the festival for fun prizes. Live entertainment is scheduled all day on two performance stages, including music from Chente Barerra, Virginia y Valor, Wreckless Texas, and Midnight Run to name a few. The evening will close with Grupo Intenso, celebrating their 25th anniversary. The lineup includes country music, oldies, Tejano and more for all to enjoy. Don’t miss out on this all-day Festival. Join the City of Weslaco and check out amazing food and craft vendors at their 1015 Market and try the world-famous Sweet Texas 1015 Onion. Also, check out the new 1015 Documentary that will be screened at the Festival in the Weslaco Museum. The show was sold out – meaning there were 500 people in attendance. Also in the crowd was Ron Moshier…. I love the way our Wintertainers™ get out and support each other. It has been fun watching them entertain together and just have fun with what they do and bring to the Winter Texan community. I also love to watch how they engage with their fans. They made sure to make time to greet and talk with the audience before the show, during intermission, and after the show. They barely got any rest because of it. It was a great way to end the season. While Leslie still has many shows left, Rick is pretty much done for the season. But we’ll see plenty of both of them again next year. And of course, you can still catch Leslie at the Island and some other shows before she heads off to her summer travel shows. Speaking of the end of the season…. It is just around the corner. Crazy how fast the season seems to have passed. We are already gearing up for our summer projects and next year. We already have quite a bit of our Valley Star Awards planned – so be on the lookout for those announcements next season. Again, we really enjoy having you here. If you are getting ready to pack up and leave, we wish you safe travels. We will miss you and look forward to seeing you again next year. We can’t wait to see what next season brings. While we are not printing our newspaper during the off season, we still continue to watch what is happening in the Valley. We continue to update our website during the summer months.
