Alegría brings to life Mexico’s beautiful art of folk dance. An energetic and spirited cast of 40 dancers, 15 musicians, colorful costuming, dramatic and exciting choreographies are supported by special theatrical lighting and lively music. A history of Mexico’s folk dance is unveiled through original works and choreographies of invited guest artists from a variety of Mexican states and regions. Ballet Folklórico UTRGV is under the direction of Miguel Angel Peña Caballero, and Zeidy Enedy Garza, production director. Opening night will be on Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. with public concerts scheduled Feb. 12, 18, and 19 at 7:30 p.m., and matinees on Feb. 13 and 20 at 2 p.m. UTRGV’s Ballet Folklórico will also perform two shows on Feb. 11 and 18 at 10 a.m. for public and private school students and teachers at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex. Tickets are $5 per student, teacher or sponsor. Teachers interested in attending should call the Dance Office to request a reservation form. Tickets will be available at the PAC Box Office one hour prior to each event. Tickets prices are $15 for adults; $10 for seniors and students; and $5 for children.
