Visitors of all ages can enjoy themed guided walks, crafting events, educational opportunities and more. Getting closer to the end of the month, there are only a few more events to enjoy. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) highly encourages anyone planning a trip to a Texas State Park to reserve their day pass in advance since some parks are expected to reach their capacity limit. Reserve day passes online or over the phone by calling (512) 3898900. Take a walk through the history of Mission Espiritu Santo as lights and shadow transport you back in time at Goliad State Park and Historic Site through December 31. The event will be held at 6 p.m. each evening. Stephen F. Austin State Park will host a Campfire Cocoa with music and stories at 9 a.m. on December 23. Also on December 23, Mustang Island State Park will have Art in the Park at 10 a.m. Experience a festive feathered celebration this holiday season at Guadalupe State Park for their Christmas for the Birds. Join in the fun as you discover their winter habits and make holiday treats from 10 to 11 a.m. On December 22, you can enjoy a Holiday Heritage Trail Hike at Galveston Island State Park. Or you could wander up to Pedernales Falls State Park and enjoy Christmastime Constellations from 6 to 7 p.m. Santa hats are required for the Santa Hike being held at 9 a.m., December 24, at Franklin Mountains State Park. According to the website, it’s an easy 1.2-mile trek where you can enjoy relatively flat terrain, a view of the city, and a variety of desert plants critters. If you are going for daring and bold, make a splash at the Frio en el Rio Polar Plunge on December 31 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event is free and all park admission will be waived for participants. They are asking for a $5 donation to Big Bend Trails Alliance instead. There are so many more fun activities being held at state parks throughout Texas.
