Senior Slow Pitch Softball The Senior Slow Pitch Softball group has started practicing. You must be 55 years young and over. They practice at the sports park on Ware and I2, across from the Convention Center. All games are in the morning on Tuesday and Thursday or Monday and Wednesday depending on what group you are in. RGVWoodcarvers The RGV Woodcarvers are meeting at the Nomad Shrine Club, 1044 W. Nolana Blvd., in Pharr every Thursday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. from now through March. For more information, visit their website at www. rgvwoodcarvers.org. Model Rail Roading & Railroaders Model Rail Roading & Railroaders have started getting together. Anyone interested in joining the group can join them Monday through Friday at the Hidalgo Pumphouse. Call Red at (313) 532-8549 for more information. Bentsen State Park has programs for all ages. Scheduled programs are free with park admission. Reservations are required for some of the programs. All programs will meet at the tram turnaround at park headquarters unless otherwise specified. Please call ahead to confirm the program schedule and details at (956) 584-9156. Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park is located at 2800 South Bentsen Palm Drive in Mission. Park grounds are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Park store is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The tram transportation service runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and leaves from the headquarters at the hour. There will be a first day hike on Monday, January 1. This is a self-guided hike along the Resaca Vieja Trail. It is a 1.5-mile trip from the trailhead. Hiking activities are available at the trailhead from 9 to 11 a.m. Bentsen bird walks are held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Junior Ranger Club will be held on Saturday, January 6 at 2 p.m. Reservations are required. A special program, Our Night Skies, will be held on Saturday, January 13, at 7 p.m. and requires a reservation. Campfire Music gathering also requires a reservation. It will be held on Friday, January 19 at 5 p.m. On Saturday, January 20, at 3 p.m. the park will host S’more History. The event requires a reservation. Reading with a Ranger will be held on Saturday, January 27, at 10:30 a.m. The event will be held at the La Familia Nature Center. Events and programs are subject to cancellation due to weather. Bentsen State Park plans January activities 3M Retirees and Friends Welcome 3M Retirees and Friends will meet on Wednesday, December 20 at 10:30 a.m. at Victoria Palms Restaurant in Donna.
