Frontera AuduRaptor Identification Workshop offered bon would like to express their gratitude for the continued support you have consistently shown here at Frontera Audubon. Frontera Audubon is unlike any other non-profit organization. It is 15 acres of undisturbed, natural habitat waiting for you to explore – and it’s dog friendly. There are countless birds, butterflies and other wildlife that thrive among the native habitats of the Tamaulipan Thornscrub forest, orchard, butterfly gardens, wetlands, and ponds here for you to admire. You also have the Skaggs house, a Spanish Mediterranean style house built in 1927 and a designated Texas Historic Landmark in the front of the property. It is currently being renovated with the downstairs and backyard now available to rent for events. As a Member and/or Friend of Frontera, you made it possible to remain open throughout the pandemic and now moving forward into 2023. For that, you have Frontera’s eternal gratitude. If you haven’t been lately to see the progress that has been made in the Skaggs House and in the Thicket, you are missing out. To make your visits to Frontera even more enjoyable, there are a few projects Frontera has on their list that are just waiting for funding. Items on the list include refurbishing the visitors’ center desk, updating the water feature in the back of the visitors’ center, extend WiFi into the Skaggs House and Thicket, add game cameras in the Thicket, add lighting and cameras in the parking lot, and repair and paint the perimeter fence. If you would like to help with any of these projects, contact Frontera Audubon at (956) 968-3275. Visitors bird watch on one of Frontera Audubon’s trails. Photo by Herb Moering Quinta Mazatlán is honored to host Quiet Mind Yoga on Thursday, January 19th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a night of outdoor yoga and meditation in the park. The theme is “Nurture with Nature” focusing on well-being, mindfulness, and a healthy quality of life. Participants will enjoy a beginner friendly yoga flow, meditation, and breath work. Guests should bring a yoga mat or blanket/towel for the grass, comfortable clothing, natural insect repellent and a water bottle for the hour session in nature. Quiet Mind Yoga was founded by Matthew Morales in McAllen. Matthew began his journey with yoga over 14 years ago to aid his studies in the arts. It wasn’t until seven years ago that he was led to fully dedicate himself to the practice. Around that time Matthew had begun doing work to look at the patterns and habits of his life. As he was traveling the world in 2016, he met yoga teachers from the U.S., India, Australia and more that inspired him to pursue yoga as a facilitator. Thus, Quiet Mind Yoga was born. With QMY, Matthew hopes to help people heal, and set themselves free through yoga and other modalities. QMY works to build a sense of community by creating experiences and environments for all to feel welcome.
