January 3, 2024 - Reunions and Meetings

Reunions are a great time to catch up with friends, old and new. Here we will feature reunions and meetings that are happening throughout the Valley. We hope that if you are having such a meeting, you will send the information to us so we can help you spread the word.
Right now, there are several meetings already taking place. Red Hatters are getting together on at least a monthly basis. If you would like to share your information, please send it in. If you have a great photo from your reunion or meeting, we would love to see that too.

Senior Slow Pitch Softball

The Senior Slow Pitch Softball group has started practicing. You must be 55 years young and over. They practice at the sports park on Ware and I2, across from the Convention Center. All games are in the morning on Tuesday and Thursday or Monday and Wednesday depending on what group you are in. There will be gloves and bats to use. Ladies welcome. RGV Woodcarvers

Model Rail Roading & Railroaders

NRLCA Retired Insurance Meeting

The NRLCA Retired Insurance Meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 17, at Victoria Palms Resort Restaurant, 602 N. Victoria Palms Rd., in Donna. Registration is at 8:20 a.m. with the meal at 8:40 a.m., order off the menu. The meeting will follow. Now through January 7 – Bishop Emeritus Raymundo Peña Nativity Scene Collection is on display at Museum of South Texas History. MOSTH is located downtown Edinburg at 200 North Closner Boulevard on the Hidalgo County Courthouse square. For more information call (956) 383-6911.

January 4-31 – The Art of Quilting at Weslaco Museum. Join the museum for an exquisite showcase of vintage and contemporary quilts from the museum’s collection. Whether you are a seasoned quilter or simply appreciate the beauty of the craft, this exhibition is not to be missed. Exhibit can be viewed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is located at 500 S. Texas Blvd.

January 6 – March 31 – IMAS will host the exhibit Ancient Landscapes of South Texas: Hiding in Plain Sight which illuminates the unique landscape and helps curious minds to understand the natural processes that formed south Texas. Along with the exhibit, a viewing of the documentary will be shown at 3 p.m. on February 3. The museum is located at 1900 W. Nolana Ave. in McAllen.

January 6 – Free Saturday at the Weslaco Museum, 10 a.m. Takes place the first Saturday of every month. The museum is located at 500 S. Texas. Call (956) 968-9142 for more information.

January 7 – The Port Isabel Antique and Flea Market is a monthly event (excluding December) featuring a wide variety of local creations, collectibles, and plants. Artisans display original artwork, jewelry, items crafted from beach finds, and pieces inspired by local culture. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Beulah Le Park on Highway 100.

January 12 – The Senior Ambassadors will welcome the Texas A&M Singing Cadets to the Rio Grande Valley for a performance at the Center Church (formerly Trinity Worship Center), located at 4801 N. Cage Blvd., in Pharr. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the performance will start at 7 p.m. Seating is general admission and the cost for a ticket is a modest $12. Monies raised from the concert will go toward two university scholarships. Tickets can be purchased at Valley Keyboard, 900 Harvey, McAllen or at Coffee Zone Bistro, 1108 McColl Rd. in Edinburg and Coffee Zone Bistro, 701 E. January 13 – Join the Weslaco Museum for their Saturday Speaker Series with Joe Vidales “Soldiers in the Valley” from 2 to 3 p.m. Learn about the National Guard troops patrolling the border from Tijuana to Matamoros. Thousands in the Valley – Why were they activated? Where did they come from? What was their experience? The museum is located at 500 S. Texas Blvd.

Admission is free all day every day, and the cottages are lit at 6 p.m. each evening. Santa Claus will be in the gazebo and available for free pictures every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night through December 23. January 12 – The Senior Ambassadors will welcome the Texas A&M Singing Cadets to the Rio Grande Valley for a performance at the Center Church (formerly Trinity Worship Center), located at 4801 N. Cage Blvd., in Pharr. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the performance will start at 7 p.m. Seating is general admission and the cost for a ticket is a modest $12. Monies raised from the concert will go toward two university scholarships. Tickets can be purchased at Valley Keyboard, 900 Harvey, McAllen or at Coffee Zone Bistro, 1108 McColl Rd. in Edinburg and Coffee Zone Bistro, 701 E. December 20, 2023 - Reunions and Meetings

Reunions are a great time to catch up with friends, old and new. Here we will feature reunions and meetings that are happening throughout the Valley. We hope that if you are having such a meeting, you will send the information to us so we can help you spread the word.

Right now, there are several meetings already taking place. Red Hatters are getting together on at least a monthly basis. If you would like to share your information, please send it in. If you have a great photo from your reunion or meeting, we would love to see that too.

Senior Slow Pitch Softball

The Senior Slow Pitch Softball group has started practicing. You must be 55 years young and over. They practice at the sports park on Ware and I2, across from the Convention Center. All games are in the morning on Tuesday and Thursday or Monday and Wednesday depending on what group you are in. There will be gloves and bats to use. Ladies welcome. RGV Woodcarvers
