Spend your Sunday afternoons immersed in arts and music at the UTRGV Concert Series at IMAS, a special series of performances by faculty and students from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Music. Ranging from the romantics to the contemporary with piano, cello, jazz, voice and percussion, these community concerts are immersed in the fine art galleries of the International Music of Art and Science and great for the whole family.
On November 16, visitors can enjoy the UTRGV Opera Theatre: Masquerades, Marriage, and Mischief. The Romantic Cello: Janacek, Jessie Montgomery, and Rachmaninoff will be presented on December 14. UTRGV faculty pianist Dr. Brendan Kinsella and guest artist Dr. Daniel Saenz performs a soulful afternoon of music for violoncello and piano. From Janacek’s dreamy and imaginative “Fairy Tale” to Rachmaninoff”s thrilling Sonata for Violoncello and Piano, this recital is sure to delight and inspire.


The Salvation Army invites the community to Give with Joy this Christmas season as its iconic Red Kettle Campaign returns to McAllen. More than just a holiday tradition, the red kettle is a symbol of hope, compassion, and generosity — supporting vital programs that serve thousands of individuals and families in need throughout the year.
There’s never a wrong time to support a cause and this summer, residents at Aladdin Villas found a charity to connect with. Earlier this summer, Tom Hollan from Aladdin Villas wanted to give back to the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), but he sought a local chapter. Previously, residents would collect pop tabs and make monetary donations but would return the donations to a chapter up north.
It’s senior slow pitch softball time again in the RGV. The RGV (previously Ed Marten’s) Senior Texan Softball League is back for its 31st year. The league is open to all local Texans as well as Winter Texan senior men and women aged 55 years and older. The youngest player last year was 57 and the most experienced player was 85. Last year over 110 seniors played in the league and this year they hope to top that.
The Valley Symphony (VSO) 2025-2026 Masterworks season opens with a milestone celebration and an unforgettable evening of musical brilliance with Music of the Greats.
