Mission Chamber of Commerce hosts 2026 Winter Texan Fiesta on March 6

The Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce invites Winter Texans to celebrate community, culture, and live entertainment at the 2026 Winter Texan Fiesta on Friday, March 6, at Leo Peña Placita Park in downtown Mission. The annual free event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with doors opening at 10:30 a.m.

Enchanted Valley Ranch will host a full day of live music, community spirit, and charitable giving at the Penitas Pantrypalooza on Thursday, February 26, from noon to 9 p.m. The daylong festival will raise funds to support the Penitas Food Pantry, with admission set at $20 per person for allday access.
The Lipan Apache Tribe of Texas will welcome the public to celebrate Native culture, tradition, and community at the 56th Annual Ndé Dáá Homecoming Powwow on Saturday, March 7, at the Alton Recreation Center, 349 Dawes Ave. Doors open at 10 a.m. and festivities continue through 9:30 p.m.
Brownsville is getting ready to celebrate Charro Days. The multi-day event will take place from February 26 through February 28.
Quinta Mazatlán invites the community to learn about the challenges and conservation efforts shaping the future of Texas’ coastal birds during a special Thursday Night Live presentation, “Coastal Bird Conservation in Texas,” on Thursday, February 26, from 6 to 7 p.m.
Registration is now open for the Gladys Porter Zoo’s annual 5K and 1-mile fun run to support ocelot conservation. This popular event is likely to sell out. The Ocelot 5K Run will take place on March 7 starting at 7:30 a.m., and the 1-mile fun run will start at 8:30 a.m. at the Gladys Porter Zoo.
February is Black History/Heritage Month, and it is now being recognized and celebrated throughout the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Among the variety of festive and reflective activities happening in our Hidalgo County area is the second annual "Walking Southern Roads to Freedom."
The Pharr Community Theater is excited to offer a new series of acting workshops for kids, teens, and adults, throughout the month of March, for those who wish to learn, grow, or sharpen their theatre skills. These hands-on workshops focus on the fundamentals of acting, including stage presence, character development, voice, movement, and confidence—taught by a PCT professional, in a fun, supportive, and creative environment. Whether you’re brand new to the stage or looking to expand your experience, these workshops are designed to inspire creativity and build strong performance skills for all levels. 
Mission Bell Resort was full of laughter and singing as the crowd enjoyed the entertainment and eagerly waited for the winners of this year’s Valley Star Awards to be announced. Many of the entertainers had their own little entourages show up to support them.
On February 9, Encore Lakewood RV Resort held their fourth Quilts of Valor presentation. Joined by sister park Sunwest, they presented 14 veterans the award this year.
To introduce Winter Texans to some of the top businesses and health experts in the Valley, Dennis and Barb Zanetti are again organizing a unique and popular Expo at Alamo Palms Resort. The doors will open at 10 a.m. and close at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 21.
You have heard of the Kentucky Derby - well at Tropic Star RV Resort in Pharr, we have Donkey Races. On February 9th, over 175 residents enjoyed the antics of the six donkeys as they made their way around the track. Fran and Vicki Bautch have taken on the responsibility, for the past eight years, for training the donkeys to make sure they are prepared for their time in the spotlight. Nancy Fischer stated, “There is nothing better than a room full of residents having a rip-roaring good time.” The donkeys will race one more time this season before they are put out to pasture for a well-deserved rest. In early February, La Floresta RV & Golf Resort had their handicap tournament. Men played on Monday and Wednesday. Gals played Tuesday and Thursday. If you had the better score over your handicap, you played on Friday. Men had three flights and women had two flights. The flight winners from left to right were Roger Vanderville - A flight, Jean Vanderville - A flight, Jim Monier - B flight, Bonnie Kadell - B flight and Mark Wilson - C flight.
