Charro Days starts this weekend

Brownsville is getting ready to celebrate Charro Days. The multi-day event will take place from February 20 through March 9.
The annual fiesta commemorates the Mexican heritage of the area on both sides of the Rio Grande and is named in honor of the “Charro,” that dashing Mexican gentleman cowboy. The first Charro Days was celebrated in 1938 and features parades, dances, races, a bullfight, rodeo, concert, a grand ball, and Noche Mexicana. Residents and visitors dressed in the traditional costumes of Mexico and honored the Mexican “Charros.”
Put on your dancing shoes and step back into the 1950s with Shake, Rattle & Roll in a special concert at Christian Fellowship Church, 901 N. On Thursday, February 20 at 11 a.m. sharp, the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery will conduct an Unaccompanied Veteran Burial for Sgt. Marc A. Jones. Born on October 20, 1953, Sgt. Jones served from May 1973 to July 1975. Sgt. Jones received the National Defense Service Medal for his service to our country.
The Pharr Community Theater (PCT) and Pedro Garcia are hosting engaging acting workshops designed for youth and adults. The workshops will focus on fundamental acting techniques and provide hands-on opportunities to practice essential skills for aspiring performers.
Bentsen-RGV State Park has announced their March programs that include roasting s’mores. There are fun and informative programs for all ages. Scheduled programs are free with park admission. A few events require reservations.
