The fifth annual Valley Star Awards will present awards to the Rio Grande Valley’s top entertainers as selected by Winter Texans casting their votes for their favorite Male Vocalist of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, Family Musical Group of the Year, Musical Group of the Year (not related), Duet Musical Group, Gospel Group, Novelty or Comedy Act of the Year, Rock & Roll Band, Country Western Band, Individual/Small Band/Variety Act, and Entertainer of the Year.

The Valley Star Awards ballot is located HERE. To cast your vote, fill out the paper ballot printed in the Feb. 4 edition of the Winter Texan Times, or submit your vote online at www.wttrgv.com. Ballots must be submitted by the Feb. 16 deadline to be counted in the poll.

This year’s Valley Star Awards will again be held at Mission Bell Resort, Saturday, Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. Mission Bell is located at 1711 E. Bus. 83, Mission.

In addition to seeing which entertainers win the top awards, guests will have an opportunity to see some of the best entertainment the Valley has to offer. Entertainers at this year’s Valley Star Awards include Leslie Blasing, J.C. Harrisson, 4 His Glory, Gordy & Debbie, Johnny Ray Gomez, and Southern Anthem.

Nominees for Male Vocalist of the Year are John Sager, Mario, Bill Chrastil and J.C. Harrisson. Female Vocalist of the Year nominees are Susan Hudson Carman, Leslie Blasing, Ruthi and Maggie Mae.

Family Musical Group nominees are Lindley Creek, CrossStrung, Southern Anthem and Goldwing Express. Non-related Musical Group of the Year nominees include Razz Ma Tazz, Men of A-Chord, Sweet Adelines and Senior Ambassadors.

Nominees chosen for Duet Musical Group are Dave & Daphne, Gordy and Debbie, Wade & Theresa Landry and Diego and Edith. Up for Novelty or Comedy Act of the Year voters can select Castaway, Bernie & Red, Gomer (Gary Crain) & Patsy Show or Johnny Ray Gomez.

Nominees for Gospel Group of the Year include Ambassadors of Grace, Myra Green & Bible Alive, Farnum Family and 4 His Glory.

Individual/Small Band/Variety Act of the Year nominees are Walter Plant, Jason Whorlow, Keys, Strings & Harmony and Party of One.

Don’t forget to fill in the write-in space for electing Entertainer of the Year.

The nominees whose names appear on the ballot were voted on by activity directors at their first meeting of the year. The directors were given a list of names of entertainers in the Valley and were asked to select four. Now it is time for Winter Texans to vote for their favorites. Cast your ballot to select the winners of this year’s Valley Star Awards. Then make plans to attend the awards show featuring the Valley’s star Wintertainers™ performing live.
