20200129 VSA desert polynesiaEvery year, the Valley Star Awards offers a great lineup of entertainment – and this year is no different. The lineup includes some of the best Wintertainers™ performing in the Winter Texan parks and resorts during the Winter months. This year’s lineup includes Rick McEwen, Dave and Daphne, Tom Wurth, Desert Polynesia, Maggie Mae and Dan Smith, and Absolutely Country, Definitely Gospel.

Rick McEwen performs classic rock, classic country, rhythm and blues and soul music. He is a member of the Traditional Country Hall of Fame. He has performed with greats such as Earl Suggs, Webb Pierce and The Dillards. He has opened for Waylon Jennings, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Dottie West and other county legends.

Dave Salyer has toured the world with Barbara Mandrell, performed for presidents at the White House and has appeared on countless TV shows. Daphne Anderson has toured with some of the greatest Southern Gospel Groups and has been described as a cross between Shania Twain and Patsy Cline. Together, they perform country music and Daphne yodels.

20200129 VSA Tom Wurth PhotoTom Wurth has taken the stage with some big names such as Vince Gill, John Ford Coley, Lonestar, Eddie Money, The Gatlin Brothers, Mel Tillis, Clay Walked and so many more. He sings country, folk, blues, pop and rock and roll.

Desert Polynesia provides authentic Polynesian music and dance for all audiences. They are an award-winning professional mea hula halau dance troupe. The troupe has Tahitian drums, a captivating Samoan Fire Knife Dancer and a Fire Poi Twirler.

The Maggie Mae and Dan Smith duo are very talented country music performers. Dan can be found on guitar while Maggie Mae brings her vocals to the stage.

Absolutely Country, Definitely Gospel entertains crowds with their classic country and well-known gospel tunes. Their sound and harmony brings soul to their music as they entertain the audience.

Of those performing, Maggie Mae, Dave and Daphne and Absolutely Country, Definitely Gospel are nominees in this year’s Valley Star Awards.

20200129 VSA IMG 9736This year’s Valley Star Awards will be held on Wednesday, February 19, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Mission Bell Resort, 1711 E. Bus. 83. Lunch will be available from 12 to 1 p.m.

How to Vote

To vote for your favorite Wintertainers™, fill out the Valley Star Awards Ballot in today’s edition of the Winter Texan Times. Voting can also be done, in our preferred method, online at www.wintertexantimes.com. You can find the ballot from the home page under the Winter Texans’ Favorites menu.

Only one vote per person is allowed. Voters must use either the online ballot of the printed ballot from the paper. No photocopies of the ballot are permitted. Ballots must be received by Wednesday, February 12 to be counted.

When you fill out the ballot, we ask that you vote for someone in every category, if you are familiar with the nominees. Also, be sure to write in your choice for Entertainer of Group of the Year. This can be any of the individuals or groups on the ballot, from any category.
