November 9, 2022 - Events Calendar

November 9-13 – The Annual Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival will be held in Harlingen. The event will be full of seminars and field trips for those that have registered. There are some community events as well. Full details and a full list of events can be found on their web page at rgvbf.org.  

November 10 – South Texas College Theatre and Dance kicks off its first production of the year with Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward. The production will run at 7:30 p.m. at STC’s Cooper Center for the Performing Arts Main Stage Theater, 3200 W. Pecan Blvd., in McAllen. General admission tickets are $5. Seating is limited and advanced purchasing is encouraged. Tickets can be purchased online at www.southtexascollege.edu/go/theatre. November 10 – The Aliento a Tequila exhibit opens at IMAS. A tequila tasting and painting workshop for adults will be held on Thursday, November 17, after hours. Exhibit will be open until January 8, 2023. Visit imasonline.org or call (956) 681-2800 for more information. The museum is located at 1900 W. Nolana in McAllen.   

November 11-12 – City of Harlingen will host their Riofest at Harlingen Baseball Field, 1216 Fair Park Blvd. There will be concerts, a carnival, artisan market, art walk, BBQ cook-off, a 5k run, food, tailgate party, HCISD performances and more. Gates open at 5 p.m. on November 11 with a Veterans Day Celebration shortly after. Kevin Fowler will be the main artist performing at 8:30 p.m. Eli Young Band will be the main performing artists on Saturday with gates opening at 12 p.m. They will perform at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $5. November 12 – November is National Diabetes Month. Join the McAllen Public Library for their Diabetes Education classes which will provide participants with helpful information on diabetes, eating well, exercising and much more. Classes are free and will be facilitated by Unidos Contra La Diabetes. The English session will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. A Spanish session will be held at the same time on November 19. The library is located at 4001 N. 23rd St.

November 12 – A Marine Corps Birthday Ball will be held at the Mission Event Center from 7 to 11 p.m. For more information, visit mclrgv.org/events/inaugural-marine-corps-birthday-ball/.   

November 12 – Upper Valley residents will join the fight to end Alzheimer's disease at the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Registration begins at 8 a.m., opening ceremony at 9 a.m., walk begins at 9:30 a.m. It will take place at Tres Lagos, 4350 Tres Lagos Blvd., in McAllen. November 12 – A 5k/one mile turtle trot will be held at Isla Blanca Park, South Padre Island. A half marathon will be held the next day. For more information and to register, visit ravrunning.redpodium.com/spi-half-marathon-2022.

November 12 – The Art Business Incubator on South Padre Island presents Art Fest, a local artist pop-up event, from 12 to 5 p.m. The event is free to the public. Visit for the opportunity to shop from over 40 local artists and makers, listen to live music, complimentary refreshments, and poetry performances in the plaza. The incubator is located at 2500 Padre Blvd., Ste. 1.

November 12-13 – You are invited to a fundraiser for the sole purpose of supplying a Veteran in need of a custom trained dog. Leslie Blasing will be hosting fundraisers for this purpose from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Coco Beach (2612 Gulf Blvd., South Padre Island). 

November 13 – The McAllen Wind Ensemble will be performing “America Rocks” at the McAllen Performing Arts Center at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on the ticketmaster website or at the center. A season pass to all four of their concerts is $40. Ticket prices usually range from $7 to $17. 

November 14 – UTRGV will present their Student Performance Series – Wind Orchestra, Symphonic Winds and Concert Band at 7 p.m., at TSC Performing Arts Center in Brownsville. For more information and tickets, visit utrgvarts.universitytickets.com/.

November 15 – Speer Memorial will host a book discussion on The Honey Bus, at 6:30 p.m. For more information, to sign up for the discussion, or to see if copies are available, send an email to reference@missiontexas.us (include name and telephone number), or call (956) 580-8754. November 17 – The Harlingen Concert Association presents Side Street Strutters as they celebrate 100 years of jazz music with a concert at Christian Fellowship Church, 901 N.
