IMAS Exhibit features Brownsville, IDEA student artwork

IMAS Student crossroads opening 2The International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) presents an exhibition curated by UTRGV MFA Alumnae Cristina Correa and Fatima Lai presenting works by high school art students from IDEA Public Schools San Juan and Brownsville ISD’s Rivera High School. The exhibit entitled Student Crossroads: Contemplating Uncovered Spaces will be exhibited at the IMAS through July 10.

Movies at the Lighthouse

Movies at LighthouseThe Port Isabel is bringing back a tradition that was started in 2004 – Movies at the Lighthouse. Movies will be projected on the side of the historical Port Isabel Lighthouse. No admission fee, Concessions will be available. The lighthouse will be open until 9 p.m. for tours (tours do have an admission). Movies start at 9 p.m.

Yoga Play in the ParkJoin Quinta Mazatlan for a fun, mindful outdoor Yoga Play in the Park with Music and Craft Activities for all ages on Thursday, June 9th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Bring yoga mats or towels, and get ready to become one with nature through yoga, meditation and singing bowls.

STC gears up for its 14th Annual Ceramics Conference

STC 1South Texas College kicks off its 14th Annual South Texas Ceramic Showdown, "The Future is Fluid. Is Function Fixed?” with a reception as well as two days of demonstrations, art talks and a month-long exhibit for the community.

The exhibit will be on view from June 6 to July 1, at the college's STC Pecan Campus Art Gallery. The gallery and ceramic studio are located at 3201 West Pecan Blvd., Building B in McAllen.

22 Amateur Golf Championship Tourney Logo TX Regional Bank Champion Lakes Golf CourseMcAllen will once again host the 2022 Texas Regional Bank McAllen Amateur Golf Championship at the Champion Lakes Golf Course, Friday, June 24 through Sunday, June 26, at the famed municipal golf course (formerly Palm View Golf Course), located at 2701 South Ware Road. This year’s defending champion is Luke Antonelli, from San Antonio, Texas.

Meet superheroes at Quinta Mazatlán

2022 6 2 Super Hero Super Vehicle Night in the ParkEveryone has an inner Superhero power, what’s yours? Quinta Mazatlán invites you to the new quarter mile Superhero Trail through the Woods. Valley artists Celerino Castillo and Gaby Rico have created over 75 life size painted wood PEGS of comic book Superheroes that have been placed along the trails. As you walk the trail you will also see 6’ tall famous comic book covers that will be accompanying the artistic PEGS. The trail will end with our real life superheroes and their vehicles. Join the park on Thursday, June 2nd for the opening date of Thursday Family Fun Nights from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Quinta Mazatlan.

“Letters Home” provide sneak peek into Sgt. González’s love for family

MOSTH LETTERS IMG 9874 WEBEDINBURG, Texas — Several letters written by Medal of Honor Recipient Sgt. Alfredo “Freddy” González will be on display at the Museum of South Texas History for the first time from May 3 to Sept. 5.

“Letters Home – Part of the Sgt. Freddy González Letters Collection” spotlight exhibit will feature a portion of Sgt. González’s letters donated by his mother, Dolia González, in 2020. Copies of the letters will be on display only.
