Quinta Mazatlan Melissa Guerra webQuinta Mazatlán is honored to host culinary expert, Melissa Guerra, on Thursday November 18th from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. for a recipe presentation and sampling on “Texas Ranch Dishes for Thanksgiving”.

Melissa Guerra is an eighth generation Texan, born and raised on a working cattle ranch in South Texas. She is a self-taught culinary expert and food historian, specializing in the food ways of the American continent, especially Texas regional, Mexican, and Latin American cuisine. In this presentation, she will share delicious recipes and food samples featuring flavors of the southwest that you can make for the Thanksgiving table.

Guerra’s passion for cooking, writing, photography, and South Texas is blended perfectly in her unique and innovative take on traditional Latin-American cuisine. Guerra’s inspiration comes from growing up in South Texas along the United States and Mexico border. The diversity of the region has influenced the way she showcases her creations. Combining and celebrating the bi-culturalism of the Rio Grande Valley is as much of a delight as it is an artistic challenge.

She has published two cookbooks featuring numerous recipes, “The Texas Provincial Kitchen” and “Dishes from the Wild Horse Desert: Norteño Cuisine of South Texas”. Her recipes have received much acclaim and earned her finalist placings for the James Beard Award in the category of Foods of the Americas and the International Association of Culinary Professionals award in the same category. Additional accolades include, being a member of Les Dames d Escoffier, a founding board member of Foodways Texas, and a member of The Culinary Institute of America Latin Cuisines Advisory Council Executive Committee. Guerra is also an adjunct professor and teaches food history and college writing at the Culinary Institute of Americas in San Antonio, Texas and Hyde Park, New York.
