Support needed to fulfill Christmas wishes for children in our community
With two days left for all Angel Tree gifts to be returned, The Salvation Army still has about 150 angels yet to be adopted. There is still time to help.
“We still have angel tags hanging on the Angel Trees and are praying all will be taken by the last day for adoption on Thursday, December 12,” said Major Jan Zuniga of The Salvation Army of McAllen. “We often see a late rush in adoptions and have staff and volunteers ready at the Angel Trees ready to help those who would like to take an angel and provide Christmas for a child in need.”
All gifts purchased for angels, each representing a child from the community, should be returned to The Salvation Army Angel Tree locations by Thursday, December 12 – at La Plaza Mall, Walmart, and The Salvation Army of McAllen. There is lots of work ahead for the staff and volunteers at The Salvation Army as they prepare for Angel Tree distribution days on December 17 through 20, when local families representing 2,500 area children will collect their Christmas gifts.
“Our community of donors, partners and volunteers is what keeps The Salvation Army Angel Tree program alive year after year,” said Zuniga. “Your kindness and generosity mean that every child registered on the Angel Tree program has a gift to open on Christmas morning, and parents don’t have to decide between paying bills or buying toys. Please help today by adopting an angel.”
If you would like to support the Angel Tree but do not have time to shop, you can purchase gifts through the Walmart Angel Tree online registry by going to www.walmartangeltree.com. Search for McAllen and view the gift registry. All items purchased will be delivered directly to The Salvation Army and be prepared for a child this Christmas.
“No child registered to our program will go without gifts. We always make arrangements at The Salvation Army to provide presents for the forgotten angels which are those tags unfortunately left hanging on the trees,” said Zuniga. “The Walmart Gift registry is a great way for people to help us fill all angel requests without having to physically go to the store, select an angel, and shop for toys. We are so thankful to Walmart for the many ways they support The Salvation Army at Christmas.”
