The Mission Historical Museum is now accepting quilt entries for its Turning of the Quilts program, set to take place on February 7. The museum is looking for antique, vintage, or unique quilts to be featured in a special presentation, where each quilt will be revealed and celebrated individually. A knowledgeable presenter will provide historical context and details about each quilt's story.
Quilts can be dropped off at the Mission Historical Museum at 900 Doherty Ave., Mission, from now to January 31, Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed January 1).
Applicants will fill out a form when dropping off quilts, and all submissions will be checked to have the appropriate hanging sleeve for display purposes. On the application, participants are asked to include key information about the quilt, such as the maker's name, the quilt’s age, how it was acquired, and any personal stories associated with it. Multiple quilt submissions are welcome. For more information about submissions and applications, please call (956) 580-8646.
The Turning of the Quilts program will be featured during the awards ceremony of the 19th Annual Mission Quilt Show on February 7, at 2 p.m. This event provides a unique opportunity for the community to showcase their quilts and learn more about their history.
Mission Historical Museum is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. They are also open every second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, visit https://missionmuseum.org/.
