The Mission Historical Museum (MHM) gladly presents a special screening of the 1979 western film: She Came to the Valley. The film is based on the novel written by local author, Cleo Dawson.
Who is Cleo Dawson? In this 1979 film based on Cleo Dawson’s novel, Willy Westall is a determined woman who moves to Mission, Texas, in search of a better life. Set against the backdrop of the Mexican Revolution, Willy faces the harsh challenges of frontier life as she strives to build a stable and prosperous future. As she navigates a land full of turmoil and uncertainty, her resilience is tested in her fight for survival of success.
The book is said to be based on Dawson’s mother’s experiences. The film was shot in South Texas's Rio Grande Valley and Oklahoma. In its first run it broke weekend attendance records at Rio Grande theatres.
Date and showtimes are January 27 through 29 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 ($6 with card payment) and come with a copy of the novel. Drop by and purchase your tickets today. Be sure to call ahead and reserve your tickets, space is limited. Tickets will NOT be sold at the door on the day of the screenings.
MHM is located at 900 Doherty Avenue, in Mission.
