Celebrate the 1015 Onion in Weslaco this weekend

The 35th Annual Texas Onion Fest is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, in downtown Weslaco, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. There will be live music, onion eating contests, shows, and more.
The Texas Onion Fest celebrates the development of the world-famous Texas 1015 Onion which was developed in Weslaco at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and is also the state vegetable of Texas. The name of the 1015 onion came from the suggested planting date, October 15.
Harlingen’s annual flower show will be held this weekend. The theme of this year’s event is “2024: Spring Collections.” The show will be held 1 to 4:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, March 23 and 24, at Harlingen Cultural Arts Center located at 576 ’76 Drive, next door to the Harlingen Public Library. It is sponsored by Harnito Garden Club, Texas Garden Clubs, Inc.

The Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show & Rodeo is the Valley’s largest single event bringing in over 400,000 visitors to the Mercedes community annually. From 1939 to 2024, 85 years of historical amazing history has been made right here in the Rio Grande Valley. The event hosts over 7,000 exhibitor entries by 4H and FFA members from across the Rio Grande Valley and from across the state.
Dale and Gayle have been entertaining in the RGV for 15 years. Winter Texans know them for playing music for 13 years at the different locations of Ace’s BBQ. They’re known for playing classic country music, whether for a show, a dance, or a happy hour. They also know them for Gayle’s alter-ego, Mrs. Crabapple, who always interrupts their shows and complains to park managers about all kinds of park matters.
The Pharr Community Theater Company (PCT) continues to showcase local talent, in various forms of art. Next on stage will be 18-year-old Gilberto Castro Jr. with his electric guitar, singing original songs and covers in the blues and rock genre.
The Fiesta Edinburg Planning Committee proudly announces the theme for this year's much-anticipated parade: "Texas Legends." On Saturday, March 2, residents and visitors alike are invited to join the city in the vibrant heart of the Edinburg Downtown District for a celebration like no other.
