Justin Terry webFun N Sun will host GospelFest on Tuesday, February 11 at 6 p.m. The event will be held in their dance hall (1400 Zillock Rd., San Benito). Brett Marshall, Justin Terry and Mountain Highway will be the main entertainment for the event. It will also feature Fun N Sun Trio, RGV Men’s Gospel Choir, Faithful Singers, and a preshow by the Fun N Sun Ukelele Band. Fun N Sun has been holding GospelFest since 2006.
The entertainers, as they do every year, volunteer their time and talent to participate in the event. They entertain singing gospel favorites and sharing messages of hope, testimony, and love.

Although the concert is free, donations are requested to support local missions. Each year the park chooses one or two organizations to donate whatever is raised at the event. This year, they have chosen the San Benito Food Pantry, In His Steps Ministry of San Benito First United Methodist Church, and Loaves and Fishes. In previous years, they raised over $4,000 to donate to their chosen organizations.

The In His Steps Ministry is designed to assist in providing new shoes for needy school-aged children of the San Benito area. This includes all of San Benito CISD, the local head start centers, and the newer charter schools.

Many children aren’t going or do not participate fully in school simply because they don’t have shoes to wear. Often, if they do, the shoes are very worn and barely hanging together. In His Steps provides school counselors, nurses and coordinators, with a resource to address this situation.

Local community groups like Fun N Sun, as well as the church congregation, contribute throughout the year to fund this program. If you would like to know more about the In His Steps programs or to donate, contact (945) 320-4934.

The San Benito Food Pantry is a regular organization that Fun N Sun supports. The San Benito Food Pantry is a charity organization which has been in service for over 36 years, providing food for under income residents of San Benito. Serving 450 families each week or 5,700 people a month keeps more than twenty volunteers busy helping to operate the pantry on a weekly basis. The pantry spends more than $1,000 weekly buying food to help feed the hungry and those in need.

If you would like to donate to the San Benito Food Pantry, you can call Forest Walker at (956) 572-0003.

Loaves and Fishes is an organization that offers several services to the community for families in need. It is a full-service shelter. The goal is to provide those in need with an individual experience of human dignity. They take care of the basics first and through their partnerships with other organizations they help ensure that other needs are made available.

Besides hot meals, Loaves and Fishes might also provide short-term assistance for rent or utilities, basic health and wellness education and services, GED preparation, computer classes, job assistance, temporary residence for homeless individuals and more.

They have offices in Harlingen and Raymondville. To learn more about Loaves and Fishes, and where you might be able to help, visit their website at lfrgv.org.
