20181205 McAllen Christmas Parade HMiller 4127 web The McAllen Holiday Parade organizers recently announced more exciting news to celebrate the Christmas season in the official South Pole of Texas, this time with a Rio Grande Valley musical spectacular that will air across the country. A line-up of 13 of the region’s top high school marching bands from McAllen, Donna, Edinburg, La Joya, Pharr, and Santa Rosa will be “Rockin’ Around the South Pole” as they perform in this year’s parade line-up.

Wonderettes 02 web The Harlingen Community Theatre, located at 1209 Fair Park Boulevard, presents the charming and fast-paced Off-Broadway smash hit, The Marvelous Wonderettes, which opens Friday, November 19 at 7:30 p.m., running two weekends November 19-21 and December 3-5.

The Marvelous Wonderettes, written and created by Roger Bean with musical arrangements by Brian William Baker and orchestrations by Michael Borth, features over thirty classic ‘50s and ‘60s musical hits, that will keep audience members joyfully entertained during this must-take musical trip down memory lane.

Edinburg plans Christmas parade

edinburg christmas parade logo web The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce and City of Edinburg proudly present their Annual Night of Lights Parade. The parade will take place on Friday, December 3, at 7 p.m. in the Edinburg Downtown District.

Organizations, schools, marching groups, businesses, and community groups are now welcomed to submit a parade entry by November 19. All entries are encouraged to participate in this year's theme “Rocking Around the Christmas Tree”. Participants of the parade must design their floats inspired by different genres of music and/or decades of music.

Battle on the Beach web The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced on Friday that single-session tickets for the inaugural UTRGV South Padre Island Battle on the Beach, featuring men’s basketball games between UTRGV and Northern Arizona as well as Texas Tech and Incarnate Word on November 20th at the South Padre Island Convention Centre, can now be purchased at UTRGVTickets.com.

UTRGV will face Northern Arizona at 1 p.m. Texas Tech plays Incarnate Word at 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and include admission to both games.

Set in 1869 London, author Joy Wilkinson skillfully illustrates the battle for women’s rights through a heart pounding, invigorating scene of women’s boxing. It is a story of four very different Victorian women who are drawn into the dark underground world of female boxing by the eccentric Professor Sharp. Controlled by men and constrained by corsets, each finds an unexpected freedom in the boxing ring. As their lives begin to intertwine, their journey takes you through grand drawing rooms, bustling theatres, and rowdy Southwark pubs, where the women fight inequality as well as each other. But with the final showdown approaching, only one can become the Lady Boxing Champion of the World.
