20220309 RIGV LivestockShowThe Rio Grande Valley Livestock Showgrounds are going to be full of animals and people beginning tomorrow as the event celebrates its 83rd year. The event will feature its senior discount day on Wednesday, March 16.

The show was organized in 1939 to support an educational environment that promotes family, community and volunteerism highlighting the Valley’s agriculture and students that participate in growing animals.

What started as an event on the grounds of a local livestock sales yard with make shift pens, and then to its current location with tents, has grown to a place with permanent buildings located on over 100 acres.

The Show has continued to grow each year and now ranks as one of the top ten in the state. People from all over Texas eagerly anticipate the event and come to enjoy the many activities including a parade, rodeos, competitive livestock events, and the many attractions that are scheduled daily.

The concert lineup includes Hayden Baker, Spazzmatics, Texas Hill, Mo Pitney, Gene Watson, the Bellamy Brothers, and others.

The event opens at 10 a.m. on most of the days, with a 9 a.m. opening on Saturday, March 12, Wednesday, March 16, and Saturday, March 19. Festivities conclude at midnight each night.

The PRCA Rodeo nights will be at 7 p.m. on March 17-March 19. A PRCA Xtreme Bull Riding event will be held on Wednesday, March 16 at 7 p.m.

While on the grounds, you can’t forget to enjoy the concessions and little shops that will be throughout the grounds and inside the main hall.

While there are plenty of animals to be seen, there is also an art and photography exhibit and others throughout the grounds.
