DSC 0962 webFor 28 years Winter Texans have filled Our Savior Lutheran Church in McAllen to join them in worshipping the Lord by singing polka melodies of familiar hymns. Previous events have included “Beer Barrel Polka” played to the words of the hymn “Come Let Us Worship,” and “The Happy Wanderer” to the hymn “He Lives.”

The annual polka service has always been scheduled for the fourth Sunday in January and relates to the church calendar’s epiphany date. Originally the popular service with the Winter Texans was held in the church gym with three services to accommodate as many as 1,400 members and visitors from other churches. The past few years, the event has been held in the sanctuary, as it will be held this year. The event is slated for Sunday, January 28, at 9:30 a.m. A free will offering will be collected.

The church will also be having their annual rummage sale in their gym next month, on February 9 and 10, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The church is located at 1105 W. Fern Ave. Call (956) 631-6121 for more information.
