The McAllen Wind Ensemble invites the Rio Grande Valley community to experience an exhilarating evening of rhythm, passion, and cultural celebration with Viva La Música on Tuesday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the McAllen Performing Arts Center.

As the ensemble’s final concert of the season, Viva La Música brings the 52nd season to a vibrant and unforgettable close. This dynamic program celebrates the rich musical traditions of Latin America and the powerful influence of Latin rhythms and melodies across the world of concert band music.

Audiences can expect an evening filled with colorful orchestration, driving percussion, soaring melodies, and music that reflects the spirit and heritage of the Rio Grande Valley community. From fiery dance-inspired selections to lyrical and expressive works, this concert promises energy, emotion, and connection.

“This program is a celebration of culture, community, and the joy of making music together,” said Roger Olivarez, Music Director of the McAllen Wind Ensemble. “As our final concert of the season, Viva La Música is both a tribute to the musical traditions that inspire us and a heartfelt thank you to the audience that continues to support live music in our region.”

The concert will include the announcement and presentation of the winners of this year’s Artis Ratley 2026 Memorial Solo Competition. Talented high school students audition each year for the opportunity to win a scholarship and be honored for their musical dedication. Additionally, featured soloists include Dr. Kevin Wenglin on tuba and Laura Benavides on alto saxophone.

Admission to Viva La Música is free. Guests are encouraged to reserve tickets in advance at www.mcallenwindensemble.org for smooth entry. Ticket holders who prefer printed tickets may pick them up at the Box Office prior to the concert.

Supporters are invited to enhance their concert experience by joining the Patron Program. Patron benefits may include reserved seating, expedited entry, and special recognition opportunities. A $50 donation ($100 per couple) directly supports new music, local arts outreach, and future performances throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Become a patron at www.mcallenwindensemble.org/become-a-patron.
