If you love coming down to the Rio Grande Valley each winter, you’re invited to become a Winter Texan Ambassador. The job is simple: share with your friends all the good times you have in the Valley each winter – away from the snow and ice. In a place where you can play golf almost any winter day. In a place where your MH & RV resort is a community of its own with lots of friends to share in a whole array of fun activities.

On Monday, February 10, Lakewood RV Resort had a beautiful presentation of quilts. The Quilts of Valor were presented to ten Veterans and were made by quilters who may know a Veteran or simply wanted to honor a Veteran.
During the presentation, a Veteran called each recipient to order and shared their personal military story. The quilt maker and a family member or friend opened each quilt, before folding it in half and together each Veteran was wrapped with the quilt they were presented.

Tropic Star RV Resort hosted the third annual Rio Grande Valley Line Dance Bash on January 25 where over 140 dancers danced for four hours. This year’s event was Penguin Party, so the hall was full of black and white decorations. Tables were decorated with black and white tablecloths with penguin footprints on the tables and entry doors. Attendees enjoyed the event so much, they want to do this once a month and include dance demos for each dance.

Race cars were provided courtesy of New Sun Racing and several Raceway club members, including two custom trucks; one a red truck with Alamo Fire Department decals; the other a blue truck with Alamo Police Department decals.
After the opening prayer and national anthem, driver introductions were made and Winter Ranch Manager Mark Foster voiced appreciation for the services the City of Alamo and the Alamo Police and Fire Departments provide to residents of Winter Ranch.

On January 29, 2025, 158 Kansans from all over the Rio Grande Valley met to commemorate the anniversary of the state’s January 29, 1861, admission to the Union. It was so special that 39 Kansans joined the group for their first time. Yay!!
This year’s event took place at Peter Piper Pizza in Weslaco. We heard many positive comments about this venue: its central location within The Valley; each person’s cost was much less than the last few years (based on your individual order); and the amount of time available for getting to know your Kansas neighbor.

About 400 Winter Texans filled the Winter Ranch Resort Hall on Tuesday, January 28 for Pastor Pudge’s Gospel Music Extravaganza. The event was full of gospel music, some comedy, and most of all worship and testimonies. The event was free, but they also took donations for local charities.
Bob and Alta Courtney performed as themselves and as Redneck Revival. Along with them were the husband-and-wife duo of Even You Ministries, and a steel guitar player and his wife also joined in.

There will be a Quilts of Valor ceremony on Monday, February 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Lakewood RV. The event will honor Lakewood Park Veterans and Veterans from Sun-West Mobile Park. The Veterans will be honored with Quilts of Valor made by the quilters at the park.
For questions, call Ann Register at (815) 325-3875.
The Quilts of Valor Foundation began in 2003 with a dream. The founder’s son was deployed in Iraq, and she had a dream she wanted to bring to life. It was about a young man, hunched over on the side of his bed, with feelings of despair. She could see his war demons dragging him down into an emotional gutter. She then saw him wrapped in a quilt and his whole demeanor changed from one of despair, to one of hope. The message was quilts equal healing.
