Mission Bell/Trade Winds hosted their third annual Reverse Advent Calendar food drive. This was started in 2023 by a couple of park residents. DaLeen Markel found an article about a group of people that did this, and she shared it with Rick Anderson, and a decision was made to give it a go. And it has turned into a highly successful event that the sister parks do together.
The first year it was estimated that about 1,200 pounds of food was donated, last year it was 1,400 pounds, and this year, over 1,850 pounds of food was donated to a local food bank, First Global Methodist Church in Mission. This will be used during the year to help residents of Mission who are struggling to make ends meet.
Rick Anderson headed it up, with lots of other park residents contributing their time and sheds to store the items until Saturday, December 13, when it was loaded up and delivered to the church.
It still is an amazing thing to see this “family” of residents come together and make this happen. People donating their time and even more important, people donating food items. Kudos to all.
