Bring a Friend, Share a Meal, and Make some Memories! That’s the slogan for this local eatery. The building’s façade lets you know you’re in the right place right away with the eye-catching cast iron logo. There’s a sense of home and local community from the warm welcome to the comforting flavors on every plate. Inside you’ll notice that it’s bright and homey with the back wall that displays a colorful mural from a local artist. In one corner, there’s merch for sale, cute mugs and T-shirts if you want to rep your new favorite spot. There’s a wall displaying art from local artists. It’s clear that this is a place that loves its community, and the community loves it back.
The Sunday morning I stopped by with my boyfriend, it was pretty packed. Despite that, the service was still fast and cheerful. I ordered the #1 Grandma’s Biscuits & Gravy Plate which has, as you guessed it, biscuits and gravy along with two eggs in any style, choice of bacon, ham, or sausage, and hash browns. My boyfriend opted for the #4 Texas Sized Breakfast, a large plate with three eggs any style, bacon, ham, and sausage, two pancakes or toast, and hashbrowns. Needless to say, we had leftovers.
The food came out within ten minutes of ordering, warm and fresh and comforting. You can tell that all portions are made to order, down to the freshly cracked eggs. I had to pace myself, wanting to try a little bit of everything including some bites off my boyfriend’s plate. He remarked that even the coffee was good.
Biscuits & Gravy has been busy this season staying open later for dinner service and expanding their menu offerings. Now a popular breakfast spot is quickly becoming a hit for dinner, open until 7 p.m. every day.
While continuing to expand the dinner menu, they already have a few hits on their hands. Scratch-made meatloaf on Mondays has been an instant favorite so far. For any that grew up with this home-made classic, the goulash on Wednesdays is sure to become your next nostalgic go-to comfort dish. Rounding out the week, how can you go wrong with a Chicken Alfredo on Fridays?
If that still hasn’t given you cause to get over and try out the new dinner selections, maybe you would prefer a delicious Taco Bowl, or something for the heartier appetite like their Chicken Fried Chicken or Chicken Fried Steak served with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables.
All in all, it’s good old homestyle cooking from the warm welcome to the warm food to the warm hospitality that extends past its doors. Be sure to make this restaurant a regular stop. You’ll find them serving daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Val Verde Flea Market, at the intersection of Val Verde Road and Business 83, in Donna. While parking can be limited at times, don’t forget to check out the Val Verde Flea Market on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays!
