December 8-9

Mission Regional Medical Center, in coordination with the Mission Chamber, is holding their yearly Community Health and Wellness Fair from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. The event will be held at the Mission Event Center, 200 N. Shary Rd. The event is free to the public and will provide several health screenings. Some tests require a 12 hour fast and require an appointment. December 9

Join the City of Brownsville for their official tree lighting ceremony at 6:30 to 9 p.m. The event will be held at the Historic Market Square and include other holiday festivities.

December 9, 10, and 11

The Harlequin Drama Club takes to the stage for the production of Xanadu at the Veterans Memorial High School Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. each night. Tickets are to be sold at the door each night and there will be no advanced sales. The tickets are $10 for adults. The lobby will open at 6:15 p.m. and masks will be required.

Troupe 1295 is going to take visitors to the magical world of Aladdin by performing Aladdin, Jr. at the Gilbert Zepeda Jr. Performing Arts Center at PSJA North, 500 E. Nolana Loop. Shows are set for 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. For more information, call (956) 354-2388.

The Valley Symphony Orchestra proudly announces A Touch of Frost, the holiday musical tradition. Tickets are on sale now for the event featuring the Valley Symphony Chorale. Hear all of your holiday favorites as well as selections from the Nutcracker and Handel’s Messiah. Join the Sharyland Pioneer High School for a trip Into the Woods at 7:30 p.m. both nights. The show will be performed in the Pioneer Auditorium at 10001 N. Shary Rd., Mission. General admission tickets are $10, senior citizens, 65 and older, are $5.

December 10-12

The Gladys Porter Zoo will be hosting its annual holiday celebration, Zoo Nights and Lights. This will be the second, and last, weekend of the event. The event is scheduled 6 to 9 p.m. each night. The price of admission is $5 or receive free admission by donating a new unwrapped toy for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. The City of Weslaco will hold their Lighted Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. down Texas Blvd.

City of Edinburg will host their Christmas Market – Christmas Festival at the Edinburg City Hall Courtyard, 415, W. University Dr., at 6 p.m. There will be food trucks, vendors, music, games and light displays.

The City of Alamo will be celebrating their Winter Wonderland Parade at 6:15 p.m. The parade will start at HEB and head southbound to Downtown Central Park where school choirs, bands and other groups will be performing. Food vendors will also be available.

The RGV Concert Band will present their annual Christmas Concert at 3 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1105 Fern in McAllen. A free will offering will be taken.

December 14

Experience the fun of the UTRGV Modern Band Ensembles and faculty band at 7 p.m. at the UTRGV Performing Arts Complex in Edinburg. These groups comprise of students learning new instruments and making contemporary popular music of varied styles.
