October 1-31 – The Weslaco Museum and WISD presents Dia de los Muertos Art Exhibit. The museum is located at 500 S. Texas Blvd. Visit www.weslacomuseum.org. 

October 27-30 – The Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show and Rodeo will hold their second annual Fall Festival – Terror on Texas Ave. The event will feature a large, haunted house, a carnival, vendors, live music, and a rodeo. Admission is $10. Additional fees for the Luche Libre and Bull-riding shows. The showgrounds are located in Mercedes. Full details can be found https://www.rgvls.com/.

October 27-31 – The McAllen Public Library will host the South Texas Book Festival. Events are planned the entire weekend. They will have their all-day event on Saturday, October 29 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The library is located at 4001 N. 23rd St.  

October 27 – Join the fun Planta Nativa Social at Quinta Mazatlan from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, advance tickets required on quintamazatlan.ticketleap.com. Guests will enjoy the native plant sale, forest bathing, live music, food trucks, plant giveaway, plant swap and more. Meet Joey Santore, YouTube Botany Star, as he presents “Crime Pays but Botany Doesn’t” on the north lawn under the stars. Quinta Mazatlan is located at 600 Sunset Drive in McAllen.

October 28 – Frontera Fest will be held on the back lawn of the historic Skagg’s House at 7 p.m. Call (956) 968-3275 for more information.  

October 28 – Bentsen-RGV State Park will host a Skins and Skeletons Ranger Talk at 2 p.m. in the La Familia Nature Center near the park entrance at 2 p.m. The park is located at 2800 South Bentsen Palm Drive in Mission. October 29 – Smokin’ on the Rio and the Rio Grande Valley Livestock Show presents Terror on Texas Ave. Barbecue Cookoff at the livestock showgrounds in Mercedes. Registration is currently open for the event. Fall Fest events will be held the entire weekend (Oct. 27-30) from 4 to 11 p.m. More information about the event can be found at smokinontherio.com.

October 29 – The Port Isabel Volunteer Fire Department presents: Monster House at the Lighthouse. Festivities start at 6 p.m. with a movie at 8 p.m. This is a free event. Costumes are encouraged. 

October 29 – SPI Birding Center will host their annual celebration of Monarch migration with their Hallowings. The event will feature free admission, a native plant sale, live music, vendors, butterfly garden tours, and more. October 29 – Quinta Mazatlan will host their Halloween Party in the Park from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is $5. There will be live performances by Palmview HS Mariachi and Folklorico, City of McAllen Parks and Rec Folkloric Group and Main Stage Dance Studio. There will also be a marketplace and more. October 29 – As part of the Texas Butterfly Festival, the event will host their community day at the National Butterfly Center from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be arts and crafts, vendors, exhibits, and more. October 29 – Mercedes will hold a Halloween themed National Night Out at the Mercedes Outlet Stores from 3 to 9 p.m. There will be a variety of activities for all ages and a carnival. The event is located at 5001 E. Expressway 83.

November 4 – Valley Symphony Orchestra will present Romantic Masterpieces – a concert of inspiration and grandeur, the true Symphonic experience. The event will take place at the McAllen Performing Arts Center at 8 p.m. For tickets and more information, visit https://valleyorchestra.org/concerts/.

November 5 – McAllen Heritage Center will be hosting the editor and two authors of ‘Living Beyond Borders, Growing up Mexican’ at 2 p.m. Refreshments will follow until 4 p.m. Books will be available for purchase. November 10 – South Texas College Theatre and Dance kicks off its first production of the year with Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward. The production will run at 7:30 p.m. at STC’s Cooper Center for the Performing Arts Main Stage Theater, 3200 W. Pecan Blvd., in McAllen. General admission tickets are $5. Seating is limited and advanced purchasing is encouraged. November 10 – The Aliento a Tequila exhibit opens at IMAS. A tequila tasting and painting workshop for adults will be held on Thursday, November 17, after hours. November 11-12 – City of Harlingen will host their Riofest at Harlingen Baseball Field, 1216 Fair Park Blvd. There will be concerts, a carnival, artisan market, art walk, BBQ cook-off, a 5k run, food, tailgate party, HCISD performances and more. Gates open at 5 p.m. on November 11 with a Veterans Day Celebration shortly after. Kevin Fowler will be the main artist performing at 8:30 p.m. Eli Young Band will be the main performing artists on Saturday with gates opening at 12 p.m. They will perform at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $5.
